Power Outages

How long do you think a corn snake could go without it's UTH? Because we get power outages here, but really only for a few hours at the most. Would the snake be fine for a few hours (usually even less than that), if the room stayed at regular temperatures?

If the room didn't drop below 65 or so, I wouldn't worry aobut it, unless the snake had just been fed. Then you might get a regurge. I would consider it likely. If a big snow storm is predicted, you might want to wait until it's over if you fear your power may go out.

Thanks. We barely lose power down here even in storms, so I'm not too worried about it. I think we've only ever gone without power for more than 24 hours once, if even for that long. And that was a hurricane, so obviously for something like that I'd be prepared.

Good idea too everyone about the heat packs. I'll have to pick some up.

Unless your power is out for a week or longer, I think the snakes will be fine.

You could keep some Therma Care on hand just in case. I used these once when I was moving. The drive was about 2 hours, and while the snakes would have been fine without heat for 2 hours, it was early in my snake keeping years, and I thought, "better safe than sorry!"

We recently had a power outage, and I was concerned for my snake. I was wondering what kind of temps they can handle. It must be pretty cold since they live so far north. My condo went down to 55 degrees during the outage, but as soon as we lost power, I covered the top of the tank with a thick, doubled up towel. There is a large rock in his tank on the warm side, and according to my temp gun, the rock didn't get below 60 degrees and the tank temp was 58 degrees.

I used a hot hand for Balthazar when I took him to my son's show and tell. I had the hot hand taped to the outside of his feeding tank with his thermometer probe over it. The temp never got over 80 and the heat lasted about four+ hours. It could've lasted longer, but we got home and put him back in his tank.
