Progression for Brazilian Rainbow boa. (1st WRE 2012 pickup)

Tavia

Elemental Exotics
The first of our WRE 2012 pickups. Got the best pictures of her of them all tonight. It's a female, about 2 1/2 to 3 months old. She is currently without a name.

Actually, she wasn't technically a WRE pickup. We got her from a very small time breeder who had an ad on KSL. Met up with him while we were in SLC for the show though. KSL, if you didn't already know, has a very good reptile section. We got an incredible deal on her. They did have about 5 or 7 BRBs there at the show, all about the same size as her. They usually have at least 3 or 4 of them. This was the first year I didn't see any adults or near adults though. Hadn't been that impressed with the adults at the previous shows, were all very dark. Last year, Naagas had a very good looking male yearling that my husband and I got to hold. My husband fell in love with him and we'd probably have bought him but had already spent all our money. We might have got him anyway if he'd still been there late Sunday but he sold right after we held him.

She was out and about exploring last night and despite the terrible lighting and the glass, my husband was able to get a few decent pictures.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her! Just after taking a drink.

This one was just before drinking.

Would you mind posting pics of her current set up? My boyfriend & I hope to get a hatchling BRB one day & I'd like to see how you have yours :)

Yeah, I'll try and get a picture at some point, or better yet get my husband to as he's better with a camera. Right now she is in a 20L tank with about 3" of substrate. I prefer one called Jungle mix, can't remember what brand it is but they stopped carrying it at Petco. Should have bought some at the Expo but it wasn't a very good deal so I decided that I'd just get some more at the local pet store who does carry it. Unfortunately I forgot that I was almost out and the one store is closed Sundays. Had to make a trip to Petco to pick up some Eco Earth, I don't like it as well but it works. Put that on the bottom and a bit of the Jungle stuff on top. Then we have a large corner water bowl buried in the substrate. Have a 3 in 1 hide, I love those! A branch, a fake leafy thing and a hammock. From the care sheets and everything I've read, BRB's are very sensitive to humidity, needing it high but are also quite susceptible to scale rot. One reason why I've taken so long to get one, here in arid Idaho the ambient humidity is often 10%. So we also have a sheet of plexiglas cut so it fits snugly into where the mesh is of the sliding lid, covering about three quarters of the mesh. So far the humidity is staying where it should be.

Finally settled on a name for this girl! Took a little while but it was probably inevitable. Named her Zoë. And yes, any possible future mate down the road will have to be named Wash.

Thanks! Still need to get a good picture of her tank. Maybe I'll try tomorrow if the light is decent.

Thank you Tavia!!! She clearly loves her digs lol, here in TX humidity is at least 40% inside, so with daily misting I should do alright. Thinking of sneaking one of these or a crested gecko for myself for my 21st birthday

Kate- Remember that BRB's need 75%+ humidity (some will say 70% but in my opinion that is too low, because it's close to 60% range and BRB's do originate from places like the Amazon Basin where humidity is high) . The reason I say this is because one should not assume that daily misting will be enough. I encourage you to run its inclosure before hand and make sure everything is running smoothly. If humidity gets to 60 or 50% the BRB will eventually die. I don't mean to sound harsh, but there is nothing more sad than a BRB dying due to lack of husbandry requirements.
