Progression Thread - Charlie the Sberry Plasma

Whiskey escaped from the animal plastics rack. There is a slight gap where the latch was, just enough for her to squeeze through. I moved Charlie back to a lidded tub for now. I am beside myself. :(

Against my better judgement, I decided to put her and her brother in the large rack in their 16qt sterilite tubs, which have latches to hold the lids on. The gap above the latch was just large enough in the back for her to squeeze out. I've moved her sibling back on top of the rack with a lid. He'll be staying in a lidded enclosure for the next few months until he's big enough to be contained safely in the rack. We did a full sweep of the room and most of the hallway and downstairs, cleaned out a couple closets, but so far no sign of her. There are tons of places she could have wedged herself into, and at this point she won't be coming out during the day. We'll put out pinkie traps tonight, hopefully she's getting hungry now.

Lesson learned: flat-topped tubs only for babies in racks. I should have waited til they were at least 25g+, maybe even larger.

Still no sign of Whiskey. :/ For the sake of continuing the project, I've picked up a strawberry lavender with matching hets to pair with Charlie and will be updating this thread with her progress as well. Hopefully Whiskey makes a reappearance and we have a nice little trio.

The downside to this pairing is I won't get nearly the variety of morphs I was hoping for, particularly non-lavender combos. The plus side is I will be able to produce more strawberry amethyst, which I anticipate will look similar to a regular amethyst (still one of my favorite morphs) so I won't have to guess at which ones are homo strawberry and which are phet.

Photos of the new girl (Juliett) coming soon!

Still waiting for a response from Joe so he can get Juliett shipped off to us. In the mean time, this skittish little boy is finally starting to show some growth.

Today the scale read 18g, so I decided it was time to try offering one of my smaller mini reptilinks. He ate it without a fuss, so hopefully we'll really start to see some size soon.

Charlie and I spent some quality time before his meal time while I waited for my turn with our new VR headset. He's chowing down reptilinks like crazy and will be on double pinks soon.

Your pictures are great. He's such a sweetie. Love the pic where he's stuffing his face with the reptilink!

So I was supposed to receive a strawberry lavender het topaz to replace Whiskey who was lost earlier this year, but Joe Pierce has gone silent and might be awol a while. I don't know if something happened or if he's intentionally ignoring facebook, etc., but hopefully everything is ok and he resurfaces soon.

In the mean time, I'm probably going to pick up a '16 female from Walter Smith from his Topaz het Lavender Blood x Lavender het Topaz clutch. I will have to recover the strawberry later on, but at least I can continue the project and get a decent variety of interesting morphs. This is really stretching my budget, but I'll make it work.

Charlie is doing well, chowing down on two mini reptilinks per feeding now. I snapped a few pics with my phone before feeding him yesterday. He's been a lot less feisty lately, though he did take a half-hearted strike at my hand when I set him on the table for a minute then picked him back up.

I found him curled up in a cute tangled little ball at the front of his tub the next morning. Silly boy found the warms now and is happily digesting.

Well you can't go wrong with Walter!

Charlie is so cute. That second picture is totally adorable. Glad he's mellowing a bit!

Love the crammed into a corner picture. He looks like he thought he fit but didn't quite, and then got stuck, and now he's just waiting for you to come rescue him. LOL

Well I finally heard back from Joe and he upgraded my order a bit for the wait! I'm going to start a separate thread for Juliett once we get some better pics, but I had to share this one at least. I finally have a yellow snake, so I had to...

She is AT LEAST diffused topaz, possibly het or homo strawberry (she is lighter in color than her siblings) and phet lavender. I'm hoping for homo strawberry because I'll get diffused strawberries from her out of Charlie.

I also received a magma het almond phet amel strawberry for the wait, but I am extremely tight on space now with only room for the 3 possible hatchlings I might get from my clutch this year and one more I've planned to buy for months now. She will be going to DuxorW in Columbus. Considering her genes match up well, she will also be paired up with Charlie when they're ready to go. :)

Every time I look at Charlie I'm amazed at how big he's getting. I keep picturing him as my tiny little 15g hatchling, but he's eating hoppers now. He's about to shed any day now, so I'll try to get newer photos then and a new weight on him, but I believe he's at least 75g now. This was taken at about 65g:

Very pretty. Yeah, they grow like noodle weeds! It's amazing how fast they grow yet it's still much slower to adulthood than cats and dogs.

On a technical note, it looks like you have one of those macro ring lights there, lol. Their shiny little eyes give it away. Never having had one I have no tips on avoiding that. I'm happy you have one in any case. I have neither macro lens nor light.

Yeah the ring light is interesting. I'm not particularly fond of the eye shine it produces, especially when it's off center, but proper lighting indoors has been somewhat of a conundrum for us. It's a work in progress.
