Progression Thread - Charlie the Sberry Plasma

Yeah the ring light is interesting. I'm not particularly fond of the eye shine it produces, especially when it's off center, but proper lighting indoors has been somewhat of a conundrum for us. It's a work in progress.

I hear you. And lighting is key to getting sharp pictures. Photoshop is your friend in cases like this. And in any case your snakes are totally adorable.

If you're not using a softbox, try that coupled with a few high wattage (like 100w equivalent or higher??) CFL in the 6500K range. That's what I did before I went dual flash with my Nikon setup. Use around 2-3 eight or 12inch clamp lamps. That should be bright enough where you'll just need on-camera fill flash. Alternatively, you could do a dual bulb T8 fluorescent fixture overhead (again, with a softbox to diffuse the light) using 5200-6500K bulbs. The 5200-6500K bulbs are generally sold as "daylight" or sunshine. Lowes used to carry a Chroma 50 sunshine T8 fluorescent that had a CRI of 98%. I haven't seen them in a while though.

Lighting is still a work in progress. I think I may have to add the overhead you mentioned at the very least to my Christmas shopping list. We do have a softbox, and a pair of LED table top lights at 5500k, but I think at least one more light source might do the trick.

Couldn't resist getting some shots of Charlie while we tested our new props too. He's such a cutie pie. Here's hoping he gets over his shyness around his intended mate for this year. She's over twice his size, so he seems intimidated by her.
