Questions on the Friends requests and such

Hi, I've been trying to figure out if the friends requests I've gotten, thank you folks - I'm flattered, do? Is it a social thing? Does it trigger some kind of forum functionality? Anyone? anyone? Bueller?

Also, protocol on a friends request - is it considered/expected to friend them back? What? I'm clueless on this and suspect I'm making faux pas right and left here.
 
You do have to say yes for them to be activated as your friends. I haven't noticed any particular benefits to it. There will be a little mark next to their user name when you are viewing the same thread, just letting you know that you are friends with that person. It's mainly helpful to me in being able to quickly find them on my own profile page if I want to send them a PM or a message on their profile. If there are any other perks to it, I'd be happy to hear too!
 
I've been wondering about this, too... I've kind of avoided using the friends thing simply because I'm so clueless on what the point is!

Pretty much nothing. I would trade the whole friends and personal page and all that crap for having ages and rep like we used to have it back.

Just my opinion!!

I could go for that!! I miss having ages listed...
 
I don't mind the ages being gone. I'm a bit paranoid about data gathering and such. I try to keep my information off line as much as possible. While I don't mind the people here knowing about me personally, I just hate the data gatherers making me into a comodity. Remember, when they say it is free, you are no longer a customer, but the product.
