Allow me to re-introduce myself.

My name is Ricardo from South Africa.

I used to frequent this site often, more as a lurker than a poster. Then one day sold off my corn snake and got into boas, which I've been trying my hand at for a while and found rather boring compared to corns. I thought I was upgrading.

So recently I've started to make a few trades with like-minded people and am getting back into colubrids, which I actually prefer (except for ball pythons - which I still need to get).

Right now I might be getting a grey banded king if all goes well and the deal is concluded, and am waiting for a MBK to arrive. I just haven't found a corn that tickles me yet. I regret selling my sunglow - but hey, live and learn.

Thanks guys.

OkeeteeMom - I doubt it. Maybe a nice bloodred though.
I wasn't really wild about the way the sunglow looked - but she was awesome. It's what's on the inside - hehe - even though it's a snake.

Thanks Mike -

You know - It's not only the fact that i don't own a corn. Sometimes with all the forums it feels like you live your life through it.

For example being on here makes you excited about snakes every day. When you go off the excitement gets less as you have no one to talk to about it. Sometimes the time off these things makes you realise what your interests really are and to get priorities straight. I've been through all kinds of 'hobbies' in 2010, and there's only 2 that stay consistently interesting to me. That's the snakes and my fishing. Especially the fishing :D I'm sure you know a little something about carp fishing where you're from?

LMAO.... I don't do it but I have friends that spend days in tents waiting for one of six buzzers to sound and throwing boilys in the water......
Small world innit.... LOL

You must be a brother from another mother ;)...my two favorite hobbies...And not sure why carp fishing never caught on as much in the States as elsewhere, because they're sure fun to catch :)

Welcome back :*)

I think Americans are a fast thrill kinda nation. If I sit for 3 days to get once decent size fish (10 kg and up) I'm happy.

hehe - Thanks Nanci. I think it's due to my low level of activity at the best of times.

I should be getting my grey banded king tonight. I'll post pics as soon as I have him. i know you guys like pics here

I guess your name turns up pretty often in old posts. So is your new GBK a mouse eater? I love those guys, but I'd hate to start with a hatchling, or breed them!!

Luckily he's already 3 years old. He is a mouse eater - but he might go onto fuzzy rats for a while because i still have boa stock. Gonna have to play this one by ear.

So what do you do with the carp after you catch them? Can you eat them? The few times I've caught a carp it's been by accident.

Always put them back. I even disinfect the area where they were hooked, have a special net that doesn't damage the scales, and a special mat to lay them on when they're out the water.

Try to preserve the big fish for future generations.

I have eaten carp - but not fond of it.

My boss's grandfather used to have a trick to eating carp...He would place a barrel in the river with the carp inside, and feed it corn meal and crackers while the fish "flushed" out it's system...Took about a month lol...Never tried it (and still have no plans to ;) )...

We pre-bait an area by freezing corn in an ice cube tray, and use a slingshot to shoot the corn 'cubes out into the lake...Carp fishing is alot of fun, and we always practice catch and release...For a "trash" fish (as they are considered in the States) it's one of the hardest fighting fish you can catch, and there are more and more "carp clubs" springing up as fisherman realize how much fun they are to catch...plus they're darn near everywhere :)
