I agree with Beth (staresvol) 150%. Why feed a snake anoles? In captivity they would eat Pinkies. I feed my Corns Mice, rats and birds. Some snakes will feed on one thing and be stuck on that one prey item. My Gost female got stuck on birds and I had to scent her mice with birds until she finally took mice again. She is supposed to make me some nice triple hets next year but she can't brumate if she has not put on some more weight. Birds give something but not protein, that is the rats job and now she has to take the scented bird. That makes more trouble for me. What would happen if your corn got stuck on Lizards then you ran out. You would more than likey have to feed WC anoles or house geckos. Also I believe you said you were feeding live, if so WHY!?!?!?! I have been bitten by anoles and if friggin' hurts.
 
Yes it does hurt! And a hatchling corn would not want to be bitten by one that is for the WC ones

It doesn't hurt at all....and I feed live and frozen. Why not????
 
Mabye it doesn't to hurt to you but a baby corn weighs about 15g thats tiny! live feeding Includes a HUGE list of the benefits of F/T feeding

I have only had to do live once and I hated doing it because I worried the whole 2 minutes it took the snake to find and catch the prey. Why not stick with pinkies? There is no point in endangering your beautiful animal, I have not been the best keeper in the world I will admit it but I am trying to turn all that around. Please pinkies are so easy. I have raised 20 snakes on mice and rats!

You make some good points. But I have never, ever had a baby green anole show any signs of agression toward me or Erricca. Also, with bigger anoles I take a small strip of bouble sided tape and wrap around the snout so that no biting will happen.

As for it being "in-humane," I am an avid deer, duck, hog, squirrel and rabbit hunter. Morals of killing animals is pretty much lost on me.

Also, my breeding enviroment is very sterile so there are no parasites. I check & medicate often.

Also, as I have stated MANY times, I live far away from the nearest store that sells pinkies. It takes about and hour and a half to get there and sometimes I run out of pinkies before I can get to the store...So having a "back up" food source really helps.

Feeding tiny, baby anoles are not endangering Erricca, many people do it. I have also said that I usually feed them frozen unless I have a fairly young anole that just hatched. Yes, pinkies are easy, but they are expensive for someone like me who is just starting out on her own, trying to get through college, pay for gas ect...anoles are cheaper since I raise my own.

Robbie I think thats a big 10-4! That will kill your snake! It will kill your snake! I spend $30 for 200 pinkies at my local show But I usually spend about 100 for mice at my local show! I buy extra from the show because the guy who vends there sold me my first pinkie! He remembers when i bought 10 pinkie now I but 300 mice from him every show! Random Thought! Emily I am a hunter too! I have a nice gun and love hunting so i know about that. I can feild dress a deer in the dark so I know about killing things but hunting and herping are two completly different thing although they offen cross. Last time I went hunting I move a copperhead out from under the tree stand with the but of my rifle! I just think it is really weird that you choose to put your animal in danger whe it would cost $5 a month to buy mice from petco to feed your 'lil corn!

No, no, no! after she strikes the live anole I take off the tape. I never leave her to feed unattended.

Also, I am not putting her in danger by feeding anoles. I remove the tape ALWAYS and rarely put it on. I only do this for a larger anole, which I usually try to freeze anyway. Plus, I can hardly ever make a trip to Petco. One of my parents usually has to take me since I have not been driving long AND just totalled my vehicle a few weeks ago. So going to Petco is not always an option. Feeding anoles is harmless, not sure why everyone has a cow. It saves me money, time and gives me something to do with the extra anoles.
 
The issue Emily is that anoles have various issues with them. Corns need mice, it is what they should eat in captivity! I order my mice from rodent pro and it works great for me.
 
The only issues I've seen so far have been:
  • Live feeding
  • Possibility of parasites
  • Tape

Honestly, I don't really have a problem with the feeding of anoles. I've been known to do it on occasion. Truth is, it's what it would be eating in the wild. My only concerns would be the possibility of wild parasites being introduced to a captive snake (who's immune system hasn't experienced those parasites before) and the tape. But since you've explained both those, I'm good.

As I stated above, I only feed anoles once a month, I feed pinkies most of the time. I only feed anoles for a few reasons 1)I run out of pinkies and can't make it to town 2)I have newly hatched anoles and nothing to do with them 3) Just to change up Erriccas diet and add the benefits of anoles.

I also cannot order online since I don't own a credit card or paypal. So any online ordering is out of the question sadly :(

Feeding sterile raised anoles IS safe, affordable and healthy. So why so many objections???
 
Robbie does have a point, the only issue I still have is the live feeding, I think that the anole could hurt the snake, I would freeze them before feeding them

Yes, the tape is only a safety precaution for larger anoles and I always remove it before Erricca swallows the anole. And no wild parasites here :) my enviroment is VERY sterile and the adults and babies are always checked and medicated for any parasites.
 
And don't worry :) Anole babies are TINY and the larger ones are usually taped. I have NEVER seen a baby anole show any aggression though, so I don't worry to much. Plus, she usually gets only about 10 live anoles a year. The rest is frozen pinkies or anoles, whichever I have on hand.
 
i think its great that shes feeding her snakes anoles- wat ever works really and as she said before shes making sure that everything is safe and that her snake doesnt get hurt, so worry about her feeding like shouldnt be an issue- we shoud worry more about ppl that feed live because they like a show or they dont care for their snake. but just my 2cents
