Releasing hatchlings...

How did this topic turn from releasing captive bred corn hatchlings to stupid pet store employees...again...?? :shrugs:

Because it's so-called "experts" that give people this crazy advice/information in the first place!

I wouldn't say they're stupid...I mean I'm sure being that they chose to work in a pet store, they're more or less animal lovers of sorts, no reason why they'd knowingly try to harm animals.
They sometimes think/act like they know more than what they really do because they were briefed on the care of general house pets that's all.

I tend to dislike most Corp owned petstores because in most cases the higher ups only care about the numbers. The individuals working there make their own decisions about liking and caring for the animals there. I have been witness to people hurting and teasing animals and then walking away saying how much they hate them, to people trying their damnedest to take care of the pets to the point of losing their job over them because their sales were low.

Many of the people working in petstores suddenly get an urge to call themselves experts because customers come to them to learn about the pets available. Sadly they usually get simple knowledge of the pet in a pamphlet from their managers and then access google for the rest. Books just aren't the main focus now-a-days with computers on the rise. Rarely do petstore workers take all their free time out of their lives to research properly on the species they are selling.

While I was working at Petland, of all the 30 or so people that walked through the doors to came work for us, only about 5 of them really knew what they were talking about. Its because it was our passion. We really cared about the animals. Most people only cared about the money and bonuses you would get if you made your monthly sales.

I do not place every petstore in this category. I have extremely high respect for those trying to give ther customers the best knowledge they can, without being big headed thinking they were born with the knowledge.

Most of the time here, their kids looking for a job to make a little money, not necessarily animal lovers. I used to work in a pet store, its HARD and near impossible for animals lovers to work in pet stores. I had to quit....its terrible but I cant save them all.
