Around Here Somewhere....
I second everything Jay said. That is the best post I have read in a long time and really sums up everything I love about this site.
Trader ratings on Fauna isn't all you make it out to be, especially if no one uses it. I have a whopping rating of 3 on Fauna and all of them were from sales done over 4 years ago. Nothing from you yet, Josh.![]()
Don't worry, you areBesides in such a tight knit community how is someone like myself coming from the ground up make a name for myself.
.
Sure it will cost a few bucks to change the format of the site. But with the money the site generates (which is more then let on I think just count up the people paying here every year its alot). As well as the money that people themselves generate here what is the big deal with spending a few bucks to put up a new tool to only help the site and the people that use it everyday in the long run.
The same way I did....you start off not being a PITA to everyone and everything that you are trying to represent by constantly trying to change a system that has been in place since long before you were here. You get to know the people here as it is indeed a tight knit community that watches out for each other. You start advertising your snakes or purchasing snakes and slowly but surely you can make a good name for yourself. You work honestly and truthfully with your clients and believe me - it does get around. Word of mouth should never be underestimated.Besides in such a tight knit community how is someone like myself coming from the ground up make a name for myself.
There is not necessarily anything wrong with questioning the system, but everyone has pretty much already told you that we don't need it, we don't want it and it isn't going to change so why do you keep harping on the issue?
....
I do argue other peoples points. I am a debate kinda person. I have every right to my opinion. In case you didnt nodus some people like and agree with my ideas. So they must not be all that bad.
Well I've managed it twice so far, so it isn't impossible (abandoned an old ID and came back 18 months later to start afresh). These key things have worked for me:Besides in such a tight knit community how is someone like myself coming from the ground up make a name for myself.
The purpose of all this is to try to help you to help yourself keep from getting burned. We are not going to be responsible for your making a mistake, as all we can legitimately do is TRY to give you all the tools we can to help you to not make a big mistake. YOU are responsible, ultimately, for making the decision as to whether or not you feel comfortable engaging in a transaction with another party.
Well this is one of those tools. But once again a great idea is thrown to the trash cause a simple format change for a few bucks cant be done. As far as why dont I pay for the change. Well I kinda did when I paid for my contributorship.
As far as going to the BOI in fauna to find out about someone on cornsnakes. Why should you have to go to a different site to do so. Plus what if that person doesnt deal on fauna only on cornsnake. Just think there is a few flaws in the system that need attention and most of you are just numb to the way things have gone for years and are just scared of change.
Over all though I am learning to love this site and some of the people on it. I do think it is a great system and some great people here. But I also feel there is a few things that could be changed
Plus the few people on fauna that have the super membership with the red shiny's pay $500 bucks a year. Just those people alone pay for the running of both sites. Not counting all the other paying members on both sites. So there is money to add a few simple things
Well I've managed it twice so far, so it isn't impossible (abandoned an old ID and came back 18 months later to start afresh). These key things have worked for me:
1) Good manners
2) Patience
3) Knowledge/experience
4) Being here for months/years, rather than weeks/months
The quick way to make a name for yourself is to be a PITA, but that's probably not the effect you're looking for. The positive path takes longer - you need to spend time building credibility and trust, just as you would if you were starting out in business (now there's a useful parallel for you).
