The place I ordered them from was super nice and they showed up the day after being ordered! They are very well mannered (though they fight at times lol) and do great at work! They are in a little 3 gal acrylic cage w/ tree bark and what not and they love to shuffle around and eat banana! I was a little freaked out by them at first but once I got to holding them i learned a lot and honestly am a little less afraid of insects in general now :)

any who! enjoy! :D

I thought you were suppose to eat them with hot sauce. That is what I get for watching the Travel Channel. Have fun with

LOL!! Ive always wanted to eat a bug.Got my son to eat a mealworm once..
Those are really super cool.Kinda creepy yet cool.

I can say if you gut them remove the head and cook em grass hoppers are not to bad. But as to not get off topic, Those are really neat!!!! not a big fan of roaches tho

haha, only two males so no babies for me! they live about 2 years each and are really tough! their carapace is super hard and their horns (the males only :) are pretty brutal! i love the little dudes, and they are about 3- 3 1/2 inches long :) pretty heavy too for a bug! After these dudes Im def getting a big beetle! but those take years to reach maturity and are a little more of a commitment as grubs. these also give faux live birth too hee hee!!

some extra pics of their cage and some other bugs ive collected on my own :)

the tree bark is some siding my bfs aunt gave me. she has an eco friendly house and it uses tree bark from logging for siding so she gave me some bits. i use it in my snake cages and would love to have a whole set up of insects using it! it love it to death and its safe for the animals. it looks nice and gives them something to climb on too :) i see them all the time scaling the back wall and head butting each other haha.

Love those mounted butterflies. We tried doing that last year with my 10 yo it was alot of fun but unfortunately the mounted bugs were in my sons room and well they didnt last.
My favorite was a dung beetle we caught it was amazing.

Those are pretty cool. Hmmm.....large insects as pets sound like a good idea. I should look into this!

I love collecting bugs. I haven't been able to find a good place to buy showcase bugs (dead) except for the Butterfly Pavillion, but it just isn't worth the fee to access the gift shop. I could be wrong though. I bought a Pamphobeteus antinous for $50 and a Urania ripheus for $23. That's a tarantula and a butterfly respectively. I love your collection.

And, your hissers are very adorable!

Oh no! Don't make me miss my hissers! I gave mine away last year because one of them died and I felt bad. He's in a big colony at CSU now xD
The dubias I raise for my lizard are no fun :p

If you want your insects mounted I could totally do that for you :D
I build the plexi cases custom and to any design! I work with insects for my friends from time to time, dried, long dead, or even damaged, I do repairs :) some of those insects are almost 10 years old :D lemme know ;)

My mom saw this thread and the first thing she said was and I quote "How could girls like those" Im so glad this forum is not all guys, then it would be pretty boring!

Very pretty boys! I have a female, and have been wanting a male (and maybe another few females). A little colony of hissers would be so fun! (Plus, I have a couple beardies who would be happy to exercise some population control if things ever get out of hand... LOL.)

Alicat, I feel the same way. I have a colony of Dubias that I hardly look at except to feed, water, and fetch dragon food. They're so much more skitzy, plus the adults are so tiny. Bleh. :p

Scotty, you're awful. That roach is STUNNING. I want a couple now. Curse you! :(

LOL- Sorry Floof. Just saw this post. My whole family has been sick all week...

They are beautiful and care is relatively easy. There is a guy in southern Oregon who sells them (or did a while back). He's reasonable, close to you and keeps a lot of cool species. PM e if you want his contact info...

Scott

You are a braver woman than I am! Giant roaches....eeeeeeew, icky. ;)

I love your collection, though. Luna moths are just the most gorgeous things ever.

Have fun with your new babies!

Cool to look at, but bugs with hard exoskeletons freak me the heck out. June bugs, roaches.. Very cool, though.
