Royal Pythons

Hi there guys!

Recently ive been thinking of buying a Royal Python. They seem so charming and look so beautiful...Much like a Corn Snake...But a few things have been on my mind. How much approximatly are these snakes as hatchlings and do their price ranges vary from colour morphs? I would love either an albino or just a normal Royal. So...would you guys be able to help out a young snake enthusiast like myself?

Yes, the prices vary GREATLY. Cheapest morph is probably the pastel, which is in the 100s, and the morphs go all the way into the ten thousands, some of the extreme rare ones even possibly in the hundred thousands. The recommended temperatures are about 82-84ºF cool/ambient temperature and 92-94ºF on the warm end. You'll do best if the humidity is above 50% and highered during shed. Always research thoroughly, though, and check around other forums. I'll PM you the address of a good ball python forum if you want it.

I mean it's in the three digit number range, not $150 or something. You might be able to find a WC for that, but it's just not worth it, in my opinion, to get wild caught. A good price for a pastel is somewhere in the mid-hundreds range.

Normals can run $35-$100
Regular pastels (not black or cinny pastels) can run $200-$1000
Spiders start at about $700 and go up
Albinos start at about $1,000 and go up
Pieds, designers, etc can be multiple thousands of dollars.

It all depends what you want.

For a pet ball python, I would go with a normal male. You can get a CB one for about $35.

If you want any of the morphs, expect to shell out a good amount of cash.

They test your patience because they have been known to stop eating for months at a time, or become picky as to what type of food they will take. I had a male that refused to eat any rats and would only eat pregnant or nursing female white mice or dark colored male mice. And yes, he'd do a tail check and if the mosue had an extra package under the tail, he'd turn his nose up and ignore the offering.

Drove me batty for nearly a year or longer before we finally sold the last two of our Ball pythons. They are great snakes - and beautiful - I just couldn't deal with thier quirks...

wow thats pretty unusual! do they have a good tempremant. Someone told me a while ago that Boa's have a REALLY laid bak temprement, they also said that ball pythons have laid bak personalities but they can be pretty shy?
sound about right??

I LOVE my little royal. She was a "freebie" from a local shop. They rescued her from an abusive home, and gave her to me to nurse back to health.

It is fairly common knowledge that BPs can be very picky eaters, and can test your patience as regards their feeding tastes. Fortunately, I haven't had any issues with my cutie-pie. She eats every 5-6 days, without issue. The only "problem" is that she requires live feedings. She WILL NOT strike at a mouse that isn't moving. Even one which is heavily stunned and just laying there...she waits until it twitches to strike. As well...she will not feed if she sees me watching, so I can't use my tongs to make a dead mouse look alive. This *could* become an issue for me when I move her to rats, or she could simply make the transfer to F/K rats without issue...who knows.

But I read a few posts ago that the o.p. got a ball...so...WHERE'S THE PICTURES?!?!?! POst some pictures NOW!

here's a couple recent pics of my rescued little baby. Even the free normals are beautiful. The first one is recent, after many feedings and a shed. The second one is when I first got her home...see how skinny and scarred up she was?

Anyhow...you now have to show me yours, since I showed you mine ;)...
