Rufous Beaked Snake

Was picking up some fuzzies at my local exotic pet store, checking out this week's family of snakes. They had a very interesting snake called a "beaked snake" that I just really took to.

Some quick research revealed that they're a relatively new breed to circulate the pet trade, originating from Africa. Though they are rear-fanged, they are supposedly incredibly docile. They have very unique faces.

Has anyone ever owned one successfully? Is it a breed this forum would recommend?

Thanks, guys!

Currently, I don't think I would recommend one. A lot of the ones coming in at the moment are fresh imports, and it's very hard to find CB specimens. I think I'll wait on one until they're more commonly captive bred.

Don't worry, Robbie, I am not equipped to take care of the potential problems of a WC reptile, but I can dream for the future, right!

The future is a wonderful thing to dream about! :) Fortunately, there are plenty of importers and very well established breeders with YEARS of experience and abilities to be able to cultivate these w/c specimens. Hopefully, in a few years, we'll be able to reap the fruits of their labor and enjoy some marvelous cbb specimens. :D

Weekly mice-buying excursion at Herpeton. After turning in my job application, I asked to see the beaked snake. He is a beautiful little guy, very unique. Hopefully I'll be able to get to know him a bit more intimately if I land the job. :)

On a side note, on the ride home I reached in the paper sack at a red light to inspect my frozen meals. Boy was I surprised when I live, soft mouse jumped on my hand! Sigh. I really don't like feeding live, but I was too far home to turn back.

How did that happen? They just threw a live mouse in a paper bag, or was he a stow-away?

Must have not heard the "frozen" attached to the "fuzzie." He threw two fuzzies into the paper bag. Like I said, I was quite surprised.
