Rules

I dug around the site a little last night before I posted my link and the info. I didn't see any easily apparent rules against either. Maybe I didn't dig deep enough. Any way the berlin wall type repremand was very clear and apparent. How about making a big thread right at the top that covers your strict prohibition against any free links and info about expos.

The prohibition is not about expos and shows. It's about non contributing members making sales pitches to sell their animals in an apparent effort to do so without becoming a contributing member.

Like I said. Things are clear now, with my message box full of penalty flags like a late hit at a football game. But, it wasn't that clear when I was clicking on threads and titles looking for stipulations.

Common sense and a good grasp of courtesy will go a LONG way sometimes...

If you noticed a classifieds section here which states "Any and all posts concerning items for sale, or items wanted must be posted in this area" and you find that YOU cannot post there, that might be a clue about the policies of this site. Not to mention that the subsections in the classifieds clearly state "Only Contributor members may post ads here."

If all else fails, all you needed to do was to ASK someone.

Seen the any all for sale covenant stipulation but I didn't see anything about only "contributor" members posting here.

The fourth sticky down in sale section called: NOTICE: Posting For Sale ads on this site.

Says it pretty darn blatantly.

After a lot of reflection on this situation, I have decided to restrict the posting of FOR SALE ads to Contributor level members only.

If you would like to become a contributing member, please click on this link: Contributor Memberships

Addendum: I just got a notice from someone who discovered another member trying to bypass this restriction by posting a FOR SALE ad in another forum. Please note that any incidents like this, such as blatant ads described as a Photo Gallery posting, will get the member doing this banned for three days from the site. I mean, come on! Do you REALLY think it would pass by unnoticed by the Contributor members here?

Sorry to have to repeat this here, but apparently people aren't reading the announcement at the top of this forum.

Okay, before we all attack here, Lavender did NOT post a for sale ad. I just want everyone to be clear on that.

Plus I believe I have explained via PM the intricacies of advertising on this site earlier this morning, and Lavender now understands the policy, which could be confusing to a person who has been here less than a week.

But I do get though. Do NOT DARE advertise an animal here, unless you jump though the moderator hoops. I get it.

Actually, to post a For Sale ad in the For Sale section, or anywhere else, you need to be a contributing member, which comes with several other perks and privleges, which may or may not be of value to a particular person.

You can put a link to your personal website in your signature whether you are a contributor or not.

I _think_ but am not sure that you can have a small banner in your signature whether you are a contributor or not.

A banner ad, appearing in the right upper sidebar, or in the right don't know what you call it next to the CS logo at the top of the page costs 50 cents a day. Put in $10 every once in a while and you have 24 hour advertising here.

So there are plenty of economical alternatives if you can't afford $25.

I'm sorry some of these rules are very confusing the way I read the section I highlighted in red, does that mean anyone who 'wants' a snake must post in that area and that area only. What about all the new people who come on and say 'Hi, I'm new looking for a snake any breeders in my area?' Because that is done all the time in intro theads, photo gallery 'Oh those are such cute babies are they for sale?',... As usual confused????

Su that means that if a person posts in Cornsnakes Wanted, that they are looking for a certain morph, or a snake in a certain area, or whatever, a non-contributing member isn't supposed to reply with "Hey I have those for sale!"

Except hasn't there been discussion that if a person responds to a Wanted post, they aren't breaking the no For Sale Ads rule??

Needs clarification...

I learn best through experience. It may not always be the safest way to learn but it is very valuable. I fully understand that on a website that is paid for and maintained by an individual or a group is not necessarily the place to exercise one's us constitutional rights. Even if that person or group claims to believe to know and love those rights. This is private property and the owners can monitor it ss hawks if they wish.

Well, if you want to be a smart ass about this fella, you'll soon find out that we can get along just fine here without you.

And in case you are as confused as you appear, the US Constitution was written to restrict the powers of the US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, not the private individuals that live in this country. I am not under any obligation whatsoever to grant you nor anyone else any rights whatsoever in relation to this website.

As I was saying.......

.
This is a bad sign.....
Been here a while now and I can safely say that this will end badly....
Well perhaps not badly, but one way...
And this is from someone who likes a good argument....
Obviously i am off to get my pop corn now... And a good seat to watch from...

I would like to mention that indeed, the first amendment doesn't apply to a private person's personal website, and that the rules that person sets should be respected, once one is made aware of them.

One thing unique about this forum, not speaking on snake forums in particular, but of forums pertaining to many interests, is that we are allowed a great deal of freedom of expression here. There is no locking of threads to shut us up. Discussion is encouraged, as long as it doesn't degenerate into insults and name calling.
