Hey everyone i was wondering if anyone on this forum has or had a scarlet kingsnake? I am looking into getting one and have been doing research but i wanted to ask on here if they are good pets. They are very pretty. Well just tell me what you think about them, thanks.

If you search, there is a recent thread called Scarlet King? that might answer your question.

i read that other thread and it says they are hard to feed?

Then that is your answer. They do not typically make good pets and are hard to care for.
The are more for experienced keepers. If you want a nice banded snake, I suggest getting a Pueblan, Nelsons or a Honduran Milk

I just want to say if you want a hand holdy snake at an early age. Milks are not good ones to have. They are a bit flighty their first few years and then even after that.
They do make good pets though, I just want to let you know, they are just a bit jumpy and do not like to be held.

oh ok, well the milk snake would be my dads and the milk snake would be the really pretty one that we just admire mostly, my corn snake will probably be the snake we hold and pick up more.

Oh you can hold them but they just are flighty their first few years. I hold mine during feeding times but typically I do not try to hold them after their first full year. These guys are just very nervous in their first few years.

Scarlet Kings ARE milksnakes...Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides. The species triangulum is all milksnakes...

Anyhow...as you read, scarlet kings can be quite picky and difficult to feed, and often don't make the best pets. They are fine if you are experienced enough to monitor their weight and dietary needs, and capable of feeding multiple lizards per week for feeding...otherwise, they can be a right pain in the...neck...

Look into an Arizona Mt. king(Lampropeltis pyromelanan pyromelana) or a knoblochi Mt. king(Lampropeltis pyromelana knoblochi). Both are gorgeous tri-color kingsnakes that have adapted well to captivity. They are easily found as CB babies, and *most* breeders won't sell them until they are willingly eating pinky mice.

When I was younger I had a sinaloan milk snake, they are "less" flightly then other milks. Mine would try to get away from you (never bite) when you reached in the enclosure but once you got her it was like holding a corn snake. I ended up having to sell her because of some family issues but I would mind owning some of the new sinaloan morphs they have out there now if I had the chance. I highly recommend them for first time milk snake people.
