Several ATBs

Decided to, finally, make a thread of my ATB group.

Use to be that I had more girls, than boys, but ... it turns out that some of my girls are, actually, boys!
It started with one young adult "female" who surprised me by showing that "she" had a part of anatomy that should not have been there ... "she" was a HE. This prompted me to check all my ATBs. So, now, I find myself ~very~ boy heavy. Guess my need, for more females, is a good excuse to get more ATBs.;)

In this thread there will be a total of nine ATBs.

Hope you enjoy.:)

First up is Iso (male).
Name used to be Isa but this is the fella that surprised me by showing that "she" was/is, actually, a He.
Iso is a late '05 (est.).

.... and this is Tiago.
He is an '07 and is very friendly.
I had to laugh, while trying to take some photos, because he kept coming up to the camera (curious & friendly manner)... made it difficult to take pics. However, I managed to get a "few".

WOW! All of them are beautiful! ( and handsome ;) )
I've been taking a HUGE liking to these guys (and almost got one, but reminded myself their housing requirements.) but I don't think any new snakes are in my near future lol!

Nice photos too by the way :]

Great thread, Deb! It's cool to see them all on one page.

I can't really pick any favorites; they're all suh-weet. But I love red snakes, so Belmiro is a standout for me. And there's something about Calisto's contrasty pattern and sinister good looks that made me linger on his pics for a while. :dgrin:

They're all beautiful, but this guy is my fav! I visited Meg a few months back, bought my Thor (wild-caught lines Okeetee) from her -- she has *awesome* snakes! I'm hoping to buy a Green Tree Python from her next year, if she produces them.

*standing ovation!*

Outstanding! Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your ATB family! They have such a gorgeous range of colors and patterns. I'm dying to know...is their general attitude (friendly vs. not so friendly) truly just snake to snake or is it based on being CBB and handling?

I'd love to have one, but I know I'd have a really hard time owning one and not being able to handle it.

Thanks, everyone.:)

Amazing group. It's a shame you are sooo male heavy, but it's a great excuse to buy 10 more females LOL

So true. If I'm lucky, I will get away with it.;) Otherwise, it may only be half that.

I love them all but, I agree, Belmiro is a stunner and I, too, have a great liking for Calisto's looks. Despite any sinister looks, Calisto is such a sweetheart ... will tolerate so much before even thinking of biting. Calisto, Iria, Tiago, & Renata are my nicest ATBs. Silverio is the next nicest in that it is fairly rare for an attempted bite. Faro & Belmiro aren't too bad ... manageable but could attempt an unexpected bite. Iso & Ciro are the two I have to take greater care with because they ~will~ bite ... with Ciro being the worse of the two ... however, neither one will bite if I am only reaching in to wipe off the inside front of their vivs, or something similar (direct contact is another matter ;) ).

Meg does have some nice snakes.:)

I really like Green Trees as well. Wish you & Meg luck (Meg in producing them and you in getting one).:)

They have such a gorgeous range of colors and patterns.

One great thing, about ATBs, is that they do have quite a wide range of colors & patterns. Much more than what my little group displays.
OTOH, With this, the "potato chip factor" can come into play because, as with Corns, it is not an easy task stopping at just one morph/color/pattern.;)

I think that a snake to snake (individual) basis can pretty much apply to most snakes and is, probably, most notable (to people) in those that are of a more "aggressive" species.
Some ATBs (& other Arboreals) are more docile than others (be they CB or WC).
However, generally, wild caught individuals tend to display more aggression. There is much better luck, for more docile animals, with those that are captive bred.
Of course (even with CB), the level (amount) of handling can play a part ... as can the method of handling, its care, etc.

I can, and do, handle most of mine without much concern (and without use of snake hooks) ... IOW the majority (of mine) are rather docile and are very easy, to handle, without much fear of a bite (these are CB). Two, of them (one CB and one LTC), I have to be a little cautious with and, with two others (both LTC), I have to be extra cautious. Of course, by far, the docile individuals are the most pleasant to deal with ;) and I do handle the more docile individuals for more than just having to take them out for viv cleaning, etc.:)
Those that are more aggressive (esp. the two mentioned), could come to be less aggressive, through becoming more accustomed to my presence &/or the daily routines,... though it does not mean that their attitude ~will~ be converted.
Their bites are not really too bad regardless. ATB teeth are so sharp that it isn't really painful. Although no bite can really be said to be pleasant ... "the shock factor is worse than the actual bite" from an ATB ;) 'Course, if bitten, by an ATB, the chances of drawing blood are high ... but the blood can, very easily, be stopped.

I guess the bottom line is that ... it is possible to have an ATB that is along the more docile lines and that can be handled.:) They just require a little different form, of handling, than, let's say, what most Cornsnakes, etc. receive.

What a group! Ok, my favorites are Belmiro, of course, and Silverio and Calisto and Iria and Tiago. I think actually Silverio might be my very favorite.
