Can I measure a shed to get a good "NON MOVING" length of my corn? He doesn't like to stay still when I measure him. LOL :shrugs:

somtimes yes, alot of the time no! the shed stretches, i descoverd this when i went round telling people i had a 3 ft snake and it ended up to be just under 2ft long, made me look silly!

Search for one of LennyCorn's posts with all the links he has. There is a link to a piece of free software that will measure your snake for you based on a picture. All you do is take an overhead picture of your snake next to or on top of something with a fixed, known length. Input he length of the base measurement, then "track" the lngth of your snake with series of mouse clicks, and it calculates the length of your snake. It is reasonably accurate.

Then in the program, you open the pic (it has to be small enough to fit entirely on your screen- you won't be able to scroll) and then measure one unit, and then trace with mouse clicks along your snake's spine. The screen shot looks like this: (See how at the top left you can read the measurement?)

Honestly, when I read that snake sheds can be up to 40% longer than the actual snake in Don Soderberg's new book I was quite shocked. I had no idea. Although I'd never tried to measure a shed I just assumed that was how long the snake was.
