Snakes round necks: yes or no?

I let my corn snake on my neck sometimes... I don't really have a problem with it. Of course I wouldn't with anything past maybe 5-6 feet or so, but if you've got a laid-back snake who isn't a fast mover, I think it'd be fine.

I've draped my snakes around my neck on occasion, like when I need both hands, but I don't make a practice of it, mainly because they don't stay there. They crawl all over and I'm paranoid that one of them would fall. Though it wouldn't be a very long drop, I still don't want to take that chance.

When I was a teenager, I had a w/c speckled king who would stay around my neck for hours.

I'd never do it with a large python or boa.

Sadly Bobby was puzzled as to where he could have contracted salmonella.

I don't find corns to want to chill in any one place usually. My Bp's want to cruise on the ground more than chill on my neck.

And what do you think dogs do? I mean, dogs lick their own butts-- and I've seen a few of them eat poo off the ground. My dog used to enjoy gnawing on any animal he could catch-- or dead ones he found on the ground.

I agree, dogs are pretty gross. Id kiss my snakes anyday (not that I actually have) over getting licked in the face by a dog.

Yep, my dogs LOVE to get "kitty cookies" out of the litterbox. Its their favorite treat! Slide through poo OR eat poo....hmmmmmmm. Both disgusting.

Yes and plus you have rather more control over what the snake comes in contact with, which is particularly relevant for those of us with cats. Easier to wash a snake than a dog too.

It is apparently common for dogs to eat cat dung. I met a lady who only found out how often her cat's box needed cleaning after her dog died. I fear the day my wife gets a dog.

(hoping this all is an acceptable digression)

Oh thats funny Sean. (catbox) Yeah, it seems the stinkier the better for dogs. Hmmmmmm, this is disgusting, let me roll around in it.

That is a great way of describing it.... LOL

Ok, jokes aside, I put both my cornsnakes around my neck (draped and around) but then again they are only 82.5cm and 96cm therefore not that dangerous.
I think that when Freya gets bigger "I might" change my mind as she is already really strong but Hotei, gosh, he is such a mellow fellow, I might just let him ;-)

Well, I once had my 4 feet, 3 inch 1000 geam corn Perseus around my neck and he did not want to be taken off, so he squeezed a bit and I did not feel very comfortable about it. I did know I would win if I'd be ready to hurt him a bit.... so I think up until his strength it might be doable, unless you are below average strong in your arms.

My butter '05 corn is the only young snake that likes to hang around my neck, the others take off to the floor or end up resting comfy in the hood of my sweater if I wear one. Only the carpet python thinks he is a bracelet.

All of my adult snakes just want to explore anything except my body...

I have never felt an boa or python around my neck, but I do know how my 1 year old carpet python feels around my wrist and I will surely try to figure out first how strong she is when adult, before draping her around my neck.

I have a one snake that has hung out draped over my shoulders, with just a bit of her tail wraped for support - but she is extremely docile and calm. I don't let the flightier snakes like the hatchlings far from my hands because those little buggers are fast when they have a mind to be.

I am not bothered by corns around the neck though. Or the kings as long as I pay attention to them and keep them from wrapping my neck. I don't encourage my daughters to do so though and always make it a point to explain to them how they need to be careful when handling the snakes - something they only do if I am standing there supervising.

The two BP's we have aren't interested in hanging out around the neck and I don't think I'd feel that comfortable with them there - though our smaller one likes to curl up around my pony-tail holder if I am wearing my hair up and he'll sit there for hours at a time if I let him. He's the calmer of the two and seems less inclined to explore.

I guess it just really depends on the snake itself though. How mellow he/she is and to some point how large the snake is.
