So sad people are so stupid

Ever Evolving Exotics
I am in my computr class now and this senior just showed the class a video of him killing a gorgeous black rat! He did it so cruelly. I am so mad at him right now. He should be picked up and swung around until his neck breaks! People are such idiots!

I would've raised hell in the classroom.. I was such a rebel in school lol.. That is so sad :( I am sorry you had to see that, but it is a sad sad reality in our world.

How did the teacher and the other students react? People will often continue, or change, their behavior based at least partially on the reactions of others. Whether his audience was appalled, angry, or cheering him on, could make a big difference in how he treats future encounters with any animals too weak to defend themselves.

The teacher really should report it, and possibly have the student evaluated. Some people who start out torturing animals have no qualms about moving on to small or weak humans, eventually.

Well I confronted this kid after class and told him his buddy was a $%^&$%* moron and that he could make the fun of me he wanted and that someday I hope a python or venomous kills him. I was angry the class cheered him on!

well we had a sub and I was checkin out this site tryin to get back on the right track I was talkin to a buddy of mine I had finished my work and he said he didnt like snakes I said thats fine and then a kid said we went fishin yesterday and we killed a snake. Man I hate him, I hope a snake head fish eats him LOL

OK its not good to wish bad things upon others or hate them.. He will get what he deserves in the end, there is no need to hate. But I definatly wouldve yelled at him knowing me. He has been misguided obviously, as many have. I like Kathy's idea to report it to someone. You can probably do it anonymously.. But don't let hate fill your heart, that is a good thing to learn now. Hate only turns to anger and misunderstanding. You will eventually become consumed with it. Learn to hate noone, only their actions. You can try to change things in the world, but have to accept when things dont change. Just keep trying to be a positive influence on life, the little amount that you touch the world will make a big difference. You can either effect the world in a negative or positive way. Its your choice. Yes he was very wrong, and did a bad thing, he has the karma from that. Now you can stand up for the helpless creature whos life was taken from it in a positive and more constructive way by #1... Tell someone about it who can look into it. #2.... make it part of your lifes goal to educate and help people understand and love the creatures that surround them.
Hating wont spread the positive. :)
I started off hating people for what they do as well, but I have learned that it does no good and only brings me down. Accept the world the way it is and hope to make a change in it for the better..

I am not gonna stick a tack on his chair or hit him with a car but I am gonna talk to the teacher we had a sub that slept most of class

Maybe, if the regular teacher is ok with the idea, you should invite a biologist who likes herps to give a talk to the class about the importance of the food chain, pest control, etc. If you give the talk yourself, they won't pay attention because you are just another student. But if one of the science teachers did it, or somebody from the local nature center, etc, then maybe it would make them think, at least for a minute or two.

I also get angry and disgusted by remarks or experiences such as you describe. But I learned a long time ago that showing your anger doesn't really change minds or behavior. Trying to find a solution, even if it is only a small, "drop in the bucket" kind of solution, seems like a better use of time and energy.

I also have employed a technique that sometimes works in certain situations because it appeals to greed. Example: "I just killed a 10 foot rattlesnake yesterday!" Reply: "That's really a shame. One that big is really, really rare. Might have been worth a few thousand dollars. Too bad you threw that money away." It may or may not make them think a couple of minutes next time. But at least I feel better that they might think they lost a lot of money through their stupidity.

Another example that may or may not help: "I just killed one of those rat snakes yesterday - I hate snakes!" Reply: That's really a shame. Rat snakes eat the same food as rattlesnakes (copperheads, whatever). Now there will be more food for the rattlers in the neighborhood, so you might start seeing more of them."

You can make up some good replies of your own for various stupid remarks like that. Have them ready ahead of time. For maximum effect, you have to give the reply without apparent anger, and a touch of sadness that the stupid person will have to suffer the consequences of his act.

But don't let hate fill your heart, that is a good thing to learn now. Hate only turns to anger and misunderstanding. ..

Wise words. I'm not the vengeful type, and I don't understand the vendetta mentality. This doesn't mean I'm a sappy fool who cannot see that actions have consequences.

As a human being, things like this sadden me greatly. As a teacher, they make me mad as all get out. How on earth did this happen in a classroom? That substitute should lose his/her job. You should inform an administrator. If that doesn't help, inform another. Follow the chain of command until someone addresses this problem. Promoting cruelty and ignorance is NOT an acceptable thing to do in a classroom.

I'm sorry this happened. I hope someone can learn something positive from the whole sorry business.

David,
People are not idiots, just misinformed. Its the best way of looking at it.

Now if you have a complaint about this. Just talk to your principle or vice principle and tell them about this and say it was animal cruelty. They should take you serious. Just say you are traumatized and may have to see a therapist. ;) watch them do something then.

Now I agree with what Kathy has stated, talk to your teacher and see if you can get someone to come in and do a talk about local animals. Talk to your local herp society and they could even supply someone to come on over and talk.
I do plenty of educational talks to students. I have made visits to Grade Schools and boy scout troops. Next week, I am being asked to do a show for some cub scouts and I plan on bringing a few local animals and a few exotics as well and the month after that, we have a Girl scout troop we are doing an educational discussion with as well.
Another thing Kathy stated, get a qualified herper or scientist to come out and talk about the importance of reptiles and snakes. This will help them learn. Most people view snakes as Evil critters. Its they way they are brought up.

Great advice everyone!

Following some of this advice may actually help the situation (although maybe only a little), and at least will make you feel you are doing something positive. Just getting angry will only raise your blood pressure and lead to premature death, lol! So give these ideas a try, and build up some positive karma with the universe!
