As i was on my way home from class not paying atteition and went onto my road and nearly hit the adorable thing as soon as I knew it was a turtle i had a good feeling what it was so i turned my car around and found this lovely Spotted turtle. Iamb guessing this is a female, a juvi or sub adult. She had quite a bit of battle scars but appeared healthy. After a few pics here and there I released it back into the lake. Enjoy.

GREAT pics! Did you know that the turtle (I think) was the subject of the most recent copy of Reptiles Magazine?

Thank you for saving the pretty little thing. Wonder why these things NEVER happen to me.... OH, I live in Arizona, that's why! LOL.

Lol thank you, I did read the magazine issue about them. And releasing her was the right thing to do, not the most common turtle i see, but i love helping them out.

Oh, I WILL agree with you that releasing her was the right thing to do... although I must admit, after reading about her, I would have been sorely tempted... :)

I really, really want a spotted turtle enclosure for my next backyard project! That Reptiles mag was just torture! I'm sure I can find CB babies.

Nice pics. The turtles eyes are so pretty. The saddles on the snake almost look like a corn but it's overall darker. Very cool snakey.

I would love to find a spotted turtle here but I never see or find any of our native turtles I only ever see Red Eared Sliders.

Great finds and pictures.

Thanks, For as many different species we have in Jersey, I have only came across several. Certain places have certain animals and just sticking to one spot to herp wont find you many new things. I have never seen a red eared slider in this state but i have came across a softshell once, at a lake i dont know what species it was.

That would have been an Estern Spiny Softshell, I would LOVE to find one of them. From what I read they were not native here either but a few were released and are doing well in one part of Jersey.

I've seen plenty of Diamondback Terrapins here especially since I work with them, a couple Box Turtles, 1 Red Belly, 1 Painted Turtle, and a few snappers. I haven't seen many snakes either a couple Garters and Back Rats and one Eastern King. When I was younger I remember snakes, turtles, frogs and toads but over the years I have noticed and large decrease in all of them, it makes me really sad.

That is supposed to be Eastern.

I love Spotted Turtles. They are certainly one of the most beautiful reptiles, and I am very happy to hear you released him/her back where you found it. They have such amazing colors, and the sweetest looking faces. Congrats, and great pictures.
