Star Trek!!! What did YOU think?

I still LOVE the original series, but have to admit, I never liked any of the Star Trek movies..... until now! I loved it, and already bought the DVD, although my sister in law stole it. :) Best Star Trek movie ever by far.

Also have to add how awesome it is to have Clint posting again! You've been missed Mr. Boyer!

I'm a SW guy, but I'm well enough versed in ST. I liked the new ST movie, but the fact that it throws away all existing canon disturbs me. It didn't have to be that way.

Really? I kind of like how it opens the door for a whole new series and/or movies with the old crew we all love.

LOL. Dean, that's what I was worried about when I heard about the movie coming out. BUT, I think with Old Spock there to "hold on to 'canon'" and them doing the "alternate reality" thing, they did a great job to open the doors like Carol said.

Sure, this "reality's" Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager MIGHT never exist, but that's okay... the other "reality" is still there. LOL. At least, that's how I (a Trek guy) justify it. :D

LOL, Fred will forgive us. He's doing well, just out of brumation (Dash that is, not Fred). :)
FORGIVE??? Nothing to forgive, Carol and Clint!

I saw this thread, and just HAD to put my two cents in.

I loved the movie, and had problems with parts.
Like...yeah. the clean slate sucks a little...there's been history made on ST (the first interracial kiss on tv, for one) and get defensive when anyone wants to change that...
BUT... it was well done, the feeling of the movie was the right way, the casting was AMAZING(Karl Urban was the best. he was almost as good as 'the real McCoy') and the plot was better than i was expecting.
I've really enjoyed all of the star trek franchise, i watched re-runs of the origional series with my dad, (tng also). After that i followed DS9 and Voyager a little...but not as avidly. I've seen all of the movies up untill this point...and i'm glad that the story was in the same likeness as the rest of the 'kingdom of startrek' (as i call it). I was glad this was well done...although i could have gone without that whole spock love story part. that was just silly. :p

I saw the new movie twice opening day... and in between the first and second time I went home and watched ST2 "The Wrath of Khan". My new bloodred is named Khan. Do I like Star Trek? Maybe... :)

PS Yes I love the new movie.. JJ Abrams did a great job of bringing the old ST into a fresh new movie.

I like to tell my self that "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" doesn't actually exists... but sadly this doesn't work and it still does.

OMG! This exhibit is only 20 mins away, but I couldn't go without Jeram and Devan. At $25 a ticket plus another $8 a peice if you want to see the movie in IMAX, looks like I will have to sell a snake or two before I get to go. I hope I can see it before it's over!
