Still no luck feeding...

Brand New Corn Mommy
Its been several weeks, I've tried every trick people have told me. Last night we took the head off a pinky, tried feeding that way and he still showed absolutely no interest. So now what do I do? I have a baby who hasn't eaten in over a month. :(

I started with a full pinkie, he wants nothing to do with it. I was told to try cutting the head off to see if it was maybe too big and that was the problem. Still no luck at all.

Trust me, the breeder won't mind. The breeder would rather _help_ you and the snake than learn of one of her babies starving to death after it is too late. You are _so_ lucky to live close to the breeder.

Have you tried live pinkies yet? My first baby corn did not eat for 23 days - until I finally tried a live pinkie - which it quickly devoured. After another couple of feedings of live pinkies, she started accepting F/T pinkies. I am glad she finally switched over, as calling/driving all around town trying to find day-old pinkies was getting old fast...

There are many options...live, brained, scented, de-scented, teasing... You just need to find what your hatchling likes. Don't be afraid to try something new that you just thought of and definitely try each option more than once. I am currently working on several problem feeders (again) and just had 2 eat a live pinky that I teased them with. Both have been offered live before and both had been teased before, but the combo worked. Vary the time of day (some are day feeders, some only at night). Remove their water for a couple of days and offer a wet F/T pinky. Try a different source of your pinkies (some absolutely refuse to eat what I produce here but go crazy over RodentPro pinkies and vice versa). Take your snake for a drive (a good one, maybe half an hour or more...I will put them in a small snake bag and in my pocketbook and take them grocery shopping to make up that time). Just don't give up, but don't over-load your snake by trying too often. And I hate to say it, but there are some hatchlings that were just never meant to survive and will never eat.

Well, I've purchased established feeders that refused to eat for me and I've sold established feeders that refused to eat for their new owners. Not sure if there is any logical reason for this to happen, but it does. I've also had established feeders that I produced suddenly stop eating after multiple meals in a row. Again, "Why" is the question of the day.
