Strawberry Snow

Howdie folks!

I'm usually on another forum for my snakes, but I think this one might be more tailormade for my hobby.

I've been offerred a strawberry snow cornsnake, but in my (somewhat limited) knowledge and handy internet googling, I haven't been able to find a definite description. Answers range from doesn't exist/unproven to yes it does exist. So I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of this breed. It's a beautiful snake, but I don't really want to be shelling hundreds of dollars on a mis-advertised snake. I've emailed the woman for a picture (still waiting on that), but I wanted a second (and third, forth and fifth) opinion.

thanks!!

Susanna

Is it just a snow with a lot of pink? That certainly shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars...Will this be your first cornsnake? What other snakes do you already own?

From the VMS website:

Snow Genotype: aaaa·anaana
An Amelanistic & Anerythristic double recessive cornsnake. Extremely variable, based on natural variation of the original stock used to create it. May be pink, tan, yellowish green blotches on a white to cream ground color. There is so much variation among Snow corns that several trade names may be seen for specimens selected for particular appearances: Bubblegum Snow and Strawberry Snow are variants selected for pink coloration in the mid-dorsal blotches. Green-Blotched Snow is a variant of the Snow cornsnake selected for greenish coloration in the mid-dorsal blotches. Pink Green-Blotched Snow is a variant of the Green-Blotched Snow cornsnake selected for a pink ground coloration with greenish dorsal blotches.

Thank you for your reply nanci!

Just a common corn and a anery. I wanted something a bit different for my next one, and this strawberry snow caught my eye. The woman is asking for 100 for the snake but with the shipping and all, it's bound to put me in the hundreds, especially to Canada.

And especially as a hobbiest, my knowledge of market prices for various morphs is extremely limited, hence why input from anyone and everyone is extremely welcome.

thanks again

Susanna

There are some Canadian breeders here on this site. To ship in Canada, is it like shipping here in the states, pretty much the same no matter how far in the whole country you go? Is crossing the border the big expense?

Still, I have bought several snakes whose shipping cost exceeded the price of the snake by 300% or so...

shipping in canada is different, by air is almost the only option, in some places there are reptile shippers who will pick up and deliver for a fee.

most US breeders do not ship into canada, only to the closest depot to the border, the snake would have to go threw US fish and wildlife which charge a $50? fee.

although you might find someone who is importing and they will pick up and bring your shipment with theirs.

being in toronto you should have access to a bunch of breeders(southern ontario) shows etc.

it would probably be a lot cheaper to go to a show and pick one out or contact some ontario breeders.

It is my understanding that they (strawberries) are like candycanes which are amels that are selectively bred for their appearance. Except of course they are amel/anery.
