Surprise! 2012 hatching begins for me..

So I've had eggs incubating a while...five clutches total, four of which were corns. The only surviving king snake egg hatched out on Monday and is a chubby little banded at 12 grams right out of the egg, and also male! He hatched out at day 71.

Yesterday I came home from being at my bf's and over at the school most of the day and the previous night..to find that two of my four clutches had began pipping! One was at day 71, the other at day 66. Funny they went together...Anyways, as I was preparing for the hatchies..i realized that one of the eggs from the day 71 clutch was already empty! SO I dug through the substrate I was using and sure enough..I found a baby!

But it was one heck of a surprise, too!

The parents of the first clutch (day 71) are Charlie (bought by exar), an Ultramel Motley with a now proven het, and Streak - an Anery stripe het hypo/amel.

The hidden het that we didn't know about with Charlie is stripe. And, a possibility he may be het anery as well as some of the pips kinda lookit..but its so hard to tell..

Anyways, here are some photo's! Two hatchies are out of Streak's clutch so far. There were only six good eggs out of this clutch. Two more are pipping and the other two are dimpled.

The other clutch has no hatchies out yet but lots of pipping. I'll just post hatchies and the pipping mystery from Streak's clutch. The rest'll have to come later when I get home from work :D

Now, I may be wrong on identifying the morphs. I'm still new to the Ultramel Gene, and the stripes on the two hatchies make it more difficult for me to guess (Only my second year of breeding..haha..)

First up is what I believe to be a normal stripe.

First image was taken this morning after settling in the other hatchie. This one is female, and she is a lot darker than she was last night (probably because the room has terrible lighting at night).

I don't think the eyes look right on the orange stripe for it to be amel. I'm not an ultra person, though. Without reading, just looking at the pic, I was thinking hypo bloodred! You know, I just posted a bazillion amel stripes in the Heart Attack's babies thread, for comparison...

Congrats on Charlies hidden hets, they are both very nice little stripes, I really haven't had any striped babies yet so can help on that part lol. But imo the one you said amel stripe may be a hypo or ultramel/ultra...maybe, I would think he would have red eyes if he was an amel too.

i just did the pairing on the corncalc. so i change my guess to ultramel stripe. lol

1 / 4 Stripe het Anery, Amel or Ultra 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 4 Motley het Anery, Stripe, Amel or Ultra 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Ultramel, Stripe het Anery 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Ultramel, Motley het Anery, Stripe 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Amel, Stripe het Anery 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Amel, Motley het Anery, Stripe 50% poss het. Hypo

Someone has to have another hidden gene; corn calc predicts all normal stripes and motleys.

EDIT: missed mom's het amel

Male: Ultramel, Motley het Stripe

Female: Anery, Stripe het Amel, Hypo

Phenotype:
1 / 4 Stripe het Anery, Amel or Ultra 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 4 Motley het Anery, Stripe, Amel or Ultra 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Ultramel, Stripe het Anery 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Ultramel, Motley het Anery, Stripe 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Amel, Stripe het Anery 50% poss het. Hypo
1 / 8 Amel, Motley het Anery, Stripe 50% poss het.

So do you think it's an ultramel stripe? Or...maybe Charlie is het hypo as well? I guess we'll find out when the other eggs hatch....it wouldn't surprise me if he carried other hidden things as well, considering there are two stripes out so far lol.

Thanks everyone! Another one came out but from the other clutch. It's a little classic girl, which means Charlie was also the father in that clutch. No others have made their escape yet but I'm sure there will be more once I get home from work. I'm on lunch now. Pictures coming up soon!

Clutch two is starting to come out!

First one out is a classic. The father is now most definitely Charlie - the Ultramel Motley. He was a great stud for me this year!

Number three is out!

So, Charlie is proving to be a very strong het for stripe. There are only six eggs that are good out of this clutch. Three are out, three are now pipping. The three that are out are most definitely stripes (already shown the first two)..here's number three! Another classic stripe, I believe..though this one looks totally different than number one?

Also, number three is a male and MEAN MEAN MEAN. He is a hateling. When I found him buried in the substrate he chomped on my finger. Then as I was trying to gently move him into a container after getting pictures, he struck and bit me at least five more times. Then he began striking at the container. =\

Oh well, here are his pictures!

SO many pretty babies... Congratz

I second the Ultramel/ultra that Kevin and the gang suggested for the one hatchling :)

Thanks guys! And yeah, i'm just gonna say that it's ultramel stripe. I am really happy with this clutch though. I wanted to work with more stripes and...BOOM! I got more stripes without expecting it! I love surprise hets. :D

That last stripe is adorable. You have great camera skills to sit there and take photos of him striking at you :p

Congrats on the clutch and proving out the unknown het!

Thanks Jsschrei! I love my DSLR. I have to fix some settings on it though as lately it seems to be pixelating some things and making the images fuzzy in some places.

Once they shed out I'll get better pictures with hopefully better lighting. =)

I have a few more out of the egg but I'll post them when I get home.

There's another from the Ultramel mot het stripe x anery stripe het hypo/amel ...and guess what? It's another stripe!! Another classic, but wow! Four out of six so far are stripes...I think that's pretty good odds! The only downfall to this is that I am male heavy. So far it's looking 3.1 ratio

Alright, so here are the next ones who have made it out of the egg. They aren't in order but will be labelled as to what they are and which clutch they came from.

Normal Stripe Male from Ultramel Motley het stripe x Anery Stripe het hypo/amel.
This one isn't a hateling, thankfully. Sweet as can be already.
