I was driving on a back road here in my mainly one-road home town, when I happened upon a flock(?) of geese walking around a fella's farm. I live in an agricultural area, so it's not uncommon to see that sort of thing, but I recently moved here (Newfoundland) from Ontario where there's not so much of that thing going on.

After talking to the farmer for a bit, he gave me permission to snap some pics of his geese. They're really cool animals and seemed well taken care of.

Just a couple of minutes ago I was outside with my camera when I spotted these fellas waiting for a meal to come their way.. spiders. I'm no fan of spiders, but once you look really close at them you realize they're quite beautiful. Wonderful patterns and such.

The pics of the geese were taken from quite a ways away. I have a camera with 15x optical zoom, so I managed to get clear shoots without getting so close as to scare the geese.

Those buggers can be nasty, my mother likes to tell a story about how my godfather's goose would always chase her around and bite people.

I wasn't risking my hide though, they were really camera shy. The closer I got to them the farther they went from me. I know the fear a charging goose can instill in a person.

Oh, yes... My grandfather had geese in his back yard. Beware any cat that came into that yard. The geese would literally kill any cat that went back there. Beware the lowered head of a charging goose!
 
I love geese! My friends have geese that bite my truck tires when I drive in! And my ex vet in MN had guard geese that apprehended and held a person who broke into her vet clinic!
