Hey,

Does anybody know how bad the drive is from Tampa airport to Daytona? It's the cheapest airport to fly into by about $80 or so.

(I could've had a ticket to Orlando for $200 if I'd bought it a few weeks ago, but noooo... I had to wait...)

It's about a 3.5 or 4 hour drive depending on traffic, but I 4 is always under construction and on a weekend it might be a little rough :cheers:
 
Joe (CaptBogart) and I drive it often and it is easily a 3.5 to 4hr drive depending on traffic. The worst section is going through downtown Orlando. Where are you flying from? I work as a corporate travel agent so I might be able to give you some suggestions.
 
Yeah, it's about a 3.5 - 4 hour drive, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I usually travel the more scenic route, taking SR 50 across the state. The worst part is going through Orlando. I try to avoid the toll roads as the time you're supposed to save isn't worth the cost. Instead of taking I 4, you can try I 75 to get you north to whichever road you want to take you east. It'll be a bit out of your way but I find it doesn't have as much traffic. Once on the east coast, Hwy 1 is the best bet north to Daytona.
 
I-4 is bad...but not THAT bad. I lived in Tampa for 8 years and made the Daytona Show every year...even when it was in the twin towers in Orlando. I would drive Saturday morning and the traffic was not bad at all and I could make in under 3 hours for sure. Now Friday evening traffic....I wouldn't suggest it.

We drove it last year and yes, we got hung up going through Orlando both ways. It was a good 4 hour drive, but it wasn't bad. Orlando is just quite annoying. It was even more annoying coming back in the middle of the wee morning and they shut the road down for a bit so we all got to sit there and sit there.
 
Lots of road construction between the two ends of the Polk Pkwy. Orlando area is the worse everything kinda coming together there. All and all though its worth saving the money for the cheaper flight.
 
How is the drive from the Jacksonville area? I did some searching for Kat yesterday and found flights into Jacksonville for a good price for her.
 
I don't remember how long it was from Jacksonville as it was part of a drive from Denver when we did it, but the trip was easy from Jacksonville, no major hiccups.
 
I live in Lakeland...

takes me about 45 minutes to go to either Tampa (depending on where you're going in Tampa) or Orlando. Another hour or so from Orlando to Daytona. Speed Limit is 70 most of the way. Construction in O-town is the flippin pits! Depends on traffic of course.
Have you tried To book a flight into Sanford Florida? It is close to the Seminole/Volusia line. Drive from there will be about 30 to 45 minutes.
 
the jacksonville drive isnt as bad. i live one hour south of Jax, and 30 minutes north of daytona, so the drive would be between 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. much better than tampa
