Taste the Rainbow....boa (Pic heavy)

jesserca

I may need snake rehab.
So I have been wanting and researching rainbow boas for about 8 months now and tonight for my anniversary present my husband bought me one!!!!!!!!!! :D :D He (I call it a he, no clue really) is sweet as far as baby brb's go, only bit me once in the whole 2 hours I've had him ;). I named him Skittles and right now he's 49g, so I guess I'll make this his progression thread. Anywho, without further ado, here's Skittles my Brazilian Rainbow Boa.

ATB doesn't really fit the bill of "bigger"... they remain quite small generally... BRB's... yeah, but again... not insanely so.

Lovely BRB you got there~!

What an amazing anniversary gift! Your husband is a definite keeper!

I've always said that if I ever get anything beside a corn, it'll be a rainbow boa. They're simply gorgeous. I'm going to be following Skittles's progression thread and enjoying him vicariously.

Aww thanks guys, I think he may soon become my favorite. A quick question for those of you who keep rainbows his humidity gauge just says that it is high, can there humidity be too high? Thanks.

They definitely need it to be higher as babies, but I always strive for about 85%. I feel much better actually having one with numbers on it.

Cannot stress that enough, get a digital hydrometer and keep it at around 80-85%... it's essential for these fellas.

Congratulations on the new baby! I love the name! So fitting. xD You have a wonderful husband, indeed.

The humidity gauge we are using is a digital one from walmart, it has the inside temp, outside temp w/ probe, and humidity. It was reading 89% last night and today just says HI. I'm not sure where Hi takes over.

Congrats!!! I've got a pair, and they are awesome. Mine actually are pretty mellow. They bite and strike if you startle them or piss them off etc. But they seem to calm down the more you handle them. I just got lucky with my two not being pissy.

It's actually not going to get that big. 6 feet would be a good estimate. 7 tops.. ATB's actually get the same length. Both are slender snakes and if you ask most people they aren't a big snake. I would say medium sized. I big snake to me would be anything that has the potential to be 8 feet or more and thick bodied. :)
