• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

The American Cornsnake Registry

Hurley and I have been working on a registry for some time now. We are finally ready to go. The American Cornsnake Registry will open to the public on June 15th.

There may be a few minor cosmetic changes, but nothing major. You are welcome to browse around the site (http://cornguide.com/acr) read the FAQ, and post any thoughts you have. We will be offline for a few days, but we wanted to let everyone discuss and figure out whatever questions or comments they have, etc. We'll set up a "Q & A" chat session for Saturday, June 18th.

:wavey:

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who played 'guinea pig' and helped us test the system as it developed. You guys were a tremendous help getting this whole thing set up, and we can't thank you enough.

So thank you:

and anyone else I have forgotten (I apologize if I missed anyone, it's late.)

You are VERY welcome! I was glad to help!

I want to thank you guys for all of your hard work! You ROCK!

Once I get back to school I'll register the remaining ones and get pictures to you guys. I've been pretty poor with that aspect.

Any chance those numbers after the few I registered are still open, or do I just get new numbers apart from those 4 that I already registered?

One thing I noticed...there is only a pre-registration form for clutches. Is there a different form for clutches that have already hatched? If so, then where can we find it? (Knowing me...I might be overlooking it!)

Great site!!! You guys have definitely done an excellent job with this!!!

Congrats on making it public! I'm glad I could help and appreciate you giving me the opportunity to!

Question time! I have to admit, I've been busy lately and haven't gotten around to getting any of my animals registered, mainly because I can't seem to get around to taking pictures. Can we fill out all the info and then send you pictures as we get them? The files would of course be named with their names, but I don't want to make things harder for you guys. Let me know what you would prefer.

Thanks again Serp and Hurley!

Erin

Woo Hoo! I've told you before, and I'll tell ya again: THANK YOU
I'm really excited about this, and can't wait to watch all the pedigrees form and branch out across the country!!!
Thanks for letting me be part of the test group!!!

Ditto! You guys put a lot of work into it and was glad to be a part.

Now where're my certificates?! :grin01:

This is fantastic. I am going to register everybody I have. Thanks for all your hard work. I've been hoping this would happen! Snake shows can't be far behind. Let's see how it goes in England this October.

Congratulations!

I know it has been a lot of work, but now EVERYONE will get to see what you have been up to!

It is going to be fun to play with in the beginning, but each year that goes by will make it a much more useful tool in researching family trees, for those who care about such things.

This type of registry has long been needed, and who better to do it than the two of you?? Hopefully, it will serve as a model for other "breed clubs" to come, and give more credibility to our entire industry / hobby.

Thanks for all of the effort you have put into this project!!

BTW we're finally back from our fishing trip (yes, we literally were "gone fishin") and will try to get caught up with everything that was sent to us via email/PM during the last week. :wavey:

Is there an 'offshore associates' section at all?

I'd love to register but I understand if one must be stateside to be in it.

I'm waiting to hear back from Mike H about the parents of my four. I'll be registering as soon as I can!

Any chance those numbers after the few I registered are still open, or do I just get new numbers apart from those 4 that I already registered?

We mostly imput the snakes in order of receipt. If you register a few and then register more, they won't be chronological if someone else has registered some in the meantime. For Kathy, we did just assign her a block in the 506-1000 region to get her back records in. But otherwise they are just put in in the order received.

One thing I noticed...there is only a pre-registration form for clutches. Is there a different form for clutches that have already hatched? If so, then where can we find it? (Knowing me...I might be overlooking it!)

The pre-registration form is for clutches and covers eggs or fresh-hatched hatchlings. If the clutch has hatched already, just fill in the number hatched that you want clutch-id's for. :)

Question time! ... Can we fill out all the info and then send you pictures as we get them? The files would of course be named with their names, but I don't want to make things harder for you guys. Let me know what you would prefer.

I would recommend getting the pictures in ahead of the registration. That way they are there when we go to input the snake. If there is no picture available, the registration will sit until the picture arrives (for 2005 and older that require a photograph) and will cause delays. Best to get them in early. Good rule of thumb - email the pictures the day you mail the registration forms. We can't assign you registration certificates without the photograph.

There is going to be some leeway to get older records entered during the grace period. Some people may not have photographs of snakes further back in the pedigrees and that is ok. The snakes can still be registered with all available info filled in. This will hopefully allow us to get back as many generations as people have records for and get the beginnings of the registry as complete as possible for future generations. :)

From the site...

"Photographs - A photograph showing the entire dorsal pattern, or at least to the vent, is required. This will be shown online, and will be used on the registration certificate, and the pedigrees of any of this snake's offspring, so it must be high enough quality for someone to identify this particular snake just from the photograph. (Pictures taken with cellphones or webcams are not advised.)

If the snake is expressing any kind of pattern trait that affects the belly (Motley, Stripe, Diffused, or other) then a belly photo is also required. Otherwise, a second photo (showing the belly or any other part of the snake, such as a distinguishing saddle or head pattern) may be sumbitted. The second photo will only be viewable online and will not be included on any pedigrees or other printed ACR certificates.

Photo sizes from 640x480 to 800x600 are acceptable. ACR does not accept paper photos, they must be submitted in a digital format. Note that all photos will be resized to 800x600 for use with the online registry. Email photographs to [email protected]. Name the file using the Registered Name on the completed form, so that we know which pictures belong to which snakes."

Is there an 'offshore associates' section at all?

I'd love to register but I understand if one must be stateside to be in it.

I do apologize, but I have to edit my previous statement to this:

We have no problem with non-USA residents registering their snakes, but we don't want to step on any toes. We'll leave registering out of country snakes to those future registries. We made this an American registry to leave the way open for the UK or Canada or anyone else willing to take it on to start their own registry. At this time, we'll just have to limit registration of snakes to American snakes or those from American registered stock.

The gene pool in other countries doesn't really converge with the gene pool that will be registered in this registry, I guess. A European Cornsnake Registry would then be able to keep records together of that gene pool. (Or a Swedish registry or whatever eventually gets started.)

Alright! This is looking pretty cool! I'm really excited about this! I do have a couple quick question though (hopefully they are not too rediculous, but I'm new to the whole idea of this type of registry).

I am planning on beginning to breed in about a year, but it will only be on a small scale. Can I still register as a breeder? or is it only for the "big breeders?"

Also, I would really like to register Sienna, but she was a petstore purchase, so she comes from unknown stock. Can she still be registered?

Thanks a bunch for doing all the work to put this together guys! It's looking great!
