The Benefit of View-Obscuring Racked Tubs

Warning: this is a stupid thread. It's just another observation (or lack of) that I thought I'd share.

Can there be a benefit to racked tubs of milky-translucent plastic in terms of viewing? Yes-- but only one. I was just thinking today that I don't think I've seen a snake in the act of defecation since sometime in '05. And you know what? I don't miss it. :shrugs: :grin01:

Funny you mention watching your snakes poop. Bobo's not too shy about it at all, and I've seen him poop like 3 or 4 times, the other two are more private. I like having "vivs" because they just look nice :shrugs: . I think I would, and probably will later on, keep on getting more vivs, as I get more snakes. I like seeing them every day. Even when they are in their hides, I can usually still sneak a peak at them if I want. Except for Doug, most of the time he hides in the aspen, but then again, he has been tub-housed for all his life as far as I know. So he isn't really used to being visible yet, like my other 2 are. Both Bobo and Skizzard will sit and stare at me through the viv glass, and seem to be quite interested in my comings and goings when they are out and about scouting for their next meal.

I love these threads, Dean! Keep them coming. They always give me something to think about.

I miss vivs, but I don't miss cleaning them. I miss the visibility, and being able to watch them cruise. But there are some cool things about racks too. I love walking into a room in the evening, throwing the light switch, and seeing fifteen or twenty snake faces staring at me, all in my range of vision.

Thanks Becky. But I don't want you to spend too long thinking about snakes crapping. :grin01:

I think i have to agree with Becky. Although the process of cleaning vivs and thier extras is a bit of a task, i would miss the vivs being a feature of the rooms they are in... I really love watching the snakes, especially when they are exploring something new.

And i have yet to see the snakes actually poo... i have been poo'd on, but i wasnt looking when it happened lol!

I always equate it to the standard "Oh, Shoot (censored)! He's back!", and actually get an internal laugh out of it every time it happens! :crazy02:

Tyche - the famous bum wrangling snake is the most public pooper I have ever met. She's gotten me once and then the other night when I put her in her tub for dinner she decided to clear her system before enjoying her meal. Luckily she didn't poop on her food. So I think cornsnales must have some sort of common sense because she knows not to s*** where she eats!

Thanks for the replies, folks. :)

Dean....you been drinkin' again????
:roflmao: That's a legitimate question! Nah, I hadn't been drinking when I started the thread. I've got a couple in me now though, so who knows what might happen. ;)

Hah! I know what you mean. You wonder what evil they could have been up to that caused so many of them to look so guiltily surprised. It's like you've interrupted them discussing a jail-break. :grin01:

Well, you've shown me that there are advantages to racks. But I rather like seeing my snakes. Especially my personality laden king snake Onyx... :D He's more entertaining than the TV.

I don't own a snake that isn't more interesting than the TV. That's why I don't even have basic cable. If I need veg-time, I can watch a DVD with a snake wrapped around my hand.

I do have cable, but don't have much time to watch it BECAUSE of my snakes. lol

Now that I've been switching over to tubs, I do miss seeing them hanging off of branches and cruising up the glass, but I THINK they like the bigger footprints of the tubs, and lets face it - they stay in their hides most of the time anyway. (Its cute when they are peaking out and watching me.)
I use the Iris tubs, so I can still see them pretty well.
Now I just have to build a rack... ugh.
