the bite - feedback?

Pet Corn Snake

New member
Hey, i was just wondering if people could put up some feedback on corn snake bites, i have yet to be bitten, but trust me, you will know when i have because i will be telling everyone lol, I think being bitten is something that will always happen at some stage in owning a corn snake, for me, i have owned damien 5 months now and i still have not been bitten, i'am very worryed about the bite, but once i get bitten i'm sure it wont be that bad, anyways, just want some feedback maybe some pictures of your corn bites...
Thanks : )

Trust me, it's no big deal. If you keep snakes, you'll get bit eventually.
I can understand your apprehension, I had it once also. Here's a pic of a defensive bite from a 3' corn, didn't feel a thing!

Thanks for that picture mate, yea damien is about 28inch now, i need to work on keeping a clear mind when he strikes, the speed of him striking (witch is pretty rare) but when he does i go white! I know deep down, after having over 30 piercings in my lifetime, a little bite will not hurt, but untill i do get bitten i will never know..! oh well, i'm just going to keep loving him as much as possible and hope we never hit the stage were he bites me and if he does, i'll forgive him : )

If you can get pierced, a bite is definitely nothing. Plain ole everyday earlobe piercings hurt more than a snake bite, imo. I have yet to be tagged by an adult corn, but my bci (still growing, but already bigger than my biggest corn) has tagged me a few times and even that doesn't really hurt too bad. I totally understand the nervousness and uncertainty, but honestly, if you can get pierced, a bite is absolutely nothing (I have a nipple piercing, so I know the difference).

My nieces seven year old corn bit me (it was my fault, I couldn't find the feeding tongs lol  ). It hurt but not that bad. Bled like a razer cut though. She needs to learn not to bite the hand that feeds her every week!

YOU'VE HAD OVER 30 PIERCINGS!!??

I would NEVER do that! I never even had my ears pierced. I don't think you have anything to worry about in a little ol' cornsnake bite, lol!

Over the past few decades, I have had a least a few hundred bites from kings, corns, rats, pythons (up to 13' or so), boas, etc. And lizards, frogs, a caiman or two, etc. No big deal - nothing venomous. But piercings? I don't THINK so, thank you very much!

I guess it is all what you are used to. I have talked to bee keepers and asked them how they could stand getting stung. They said it is no big deal and they get used to it. Don't think I could get used to that, although I guess it isn't much worse than a bite from a really big rat or king.

Just depends on your experience and how you look at it.

George-

Really...don't sweat it. I have pierced, at one time or another, just about everything a man can pierce, except my nipples and my belly button. ALL of them are worse than the colubrid bites I've taken.

I haven't gotten bit by a corn, yet, but my adult male Cali King SWEARS that I am a mouse, and he takes a good taste almost everytime I hold him just to make sure. I've had him for about 8 days, and he's bitten me good and proper at least 7 times. It isn't that bad.

It hurts a little bit, and it definitely is not something that I enjoy or look forward to...it sucks. But it really isn't that big of a deal...Most of my piercings hurt WAY more, and for way longer. The king bites are "out of mind" within the hour...no more pain.

If you search the "General Chit-Chat" forum for my "Update:Rescued Cali King" thread, there are pictures of the last bite he gave me...

Basically to repeat the things everyone else said, it really doesn't hurt. Piercings hurt worse, as do tattoos.

It's kind of funny, because my king doesn't turn off the feeding response for awhile, and usually ends up biting whoever picks her up. She's little, so I don't even feel it, and I can't help but laugh that she keeps biting and constricting my finger, which is a little more than her width.

You'll probably be a bit apprehensive about it until it actually happens, but trust me, it's not bad.

haha yea, it would be alot easier if corn's were not in (hunt mode) as soon as the smell of mice/rats is in the air! they just seem to go crazy :p although I'm sure its the same for most snakes..
Thank's mate : )

Thanks mate : ) all advise and knowledge is much appreciated!

don't worry about being bit , it's so fast your tagged before you know it
and it's nothing really, even a anaconda bite ain't that bad.
my yellow had me twice , bled a bit but nothing much

Corn bites don't hurt at all. I can only speak for corns though, as I haven't been bitten by other snakes. When I got my first bite, I didn't even realize that I had been bit until my boyfriend Joe pointed the teeny drops of blood out. I thought he just head butted me. lol.

I've also had various piercings, and they were much worse than the bites. You really don't feel bites too much.

It doesn't feel good, but it's not going to kill you. Depends upon where you're bitten and if they chew or not. I got bitten on the inside of my elbow and the sucker held on and chewed a while. Did not feel too good, but it wasn't too bad. I still don't like getting bitten and try not to let it happen. I can almost always tell when they are in the mood to tag you and I try to give them some time to cool off first before handling.

the worst part of a corn snake bite is getting scared and jumping and the hitting yourself on the headlol but my nephews bite hurts mor than a snake bit

-alf--

p.s he has no teeth

Once you start piercing other body parts, it's not difficult to go over that. Totaling up mine, including re-piercings, I've had 34 and have at least 8 more planned. I laugh at the hatchlings that strike at me. Seriously, do they think those teeny teeth are going to frighten anything bigger than a cricket? The Burmese I had ten or twelve years ago scared me: his bites broke the skin, and he didn't like to let go. His name was "Cassius", and he lived up to it.
