Need I say more...

That is Sadie, our new long haired dachshund puppy. We've had her for a week now, don't let the cute exterior fool you, she is pure evil.

Most puppies are, those terrifying brown eyes and sharp viscous puppy teeth. Good luck remaining alive, she looks like a killer.

My neighbors have like 6 of those things. Each and every one of them is a fur bearing spawn of satan. With my girlfriend working at a vet clinic, there's a list of dogs that no employee there will own, dachshunds being one of those. I hope you have good luck with your little puppy however. :)

Dachshunds are absolutely the best breed of small dog you could own. I have another, Snoopy that has been with me for almost 4 yrs.
They are extremely loving and natural clowns but they do have some quirks and many don't take well to strangers.
My hubby told me that when we do finally buy our own house, we can have a whole pack of weenies:dancer:

AWWWW...

I mean, QUICK GET THE HOLY WATER :dgrin:

I love those badger dogs. My friend has a standard wirehair that is really cool.

You beat me to it! I can't believe they used to be "badger dogs". My brother had one that looks just like her! She had pups and now my dad has one too. ALL of them look just like Sadie. Well, my brother's dog, Marvel, is a fatty compared to Sadie, but he's just so handsome!

Nice!

Fred

They are still used for Badger in other countries and in America, the hunt rabbit. I'm sure my Snoopy would happily go after a badger, he is absolutely obsessed with our breeder rats and the one time I brought a baby rabbit home for my ball, I almost lost it to him.

We had one rat escape and get into a old console stereo, we tried everything to get her but she was very mean and kept attacking us. I finally just put Snoopy in with her, he killed her with one quick bite, since then I let him kill any adult rats that I need to freeze.

My friend had one awsome Dachshund, but then she died unfortunatley and now his mom rescued a new one she is an ankle bitter. even bit my friend in the groin area:D hilarious, she is alright if you just dont show fear. I love your pit his speckled color is my favorite for pits, im hoping to get a one when i move out after high school.

Aww!!! She is sooooo cute!!! I will admit when my boyfriend and I got our Dacshund Zinc I really wasn't big on him at first (I love the large breed dogs) but now he is my friend, my pet and my partner and I would be devistated if any harm ever came to him :0)

Your puppy is sooo adorable!! I warn you now though..house training is anything but easy for this breed..lol

Dachshunds are no worse than any other dog. The problem is with small dogs is that people tolerate (such as nipping/biting) and think it's cute. They wouldn't think a large dog was cute if they did that but little ones...they just go awwwwww. They allow jumping, barking and other dominant behaviors that aren't allowed with the larger breeds. If they stop getting treated like little babies or some sort of furred people and start getting treated like the dogs they are, they would be much better canine citizens.

Cute doxie Maize, I really like dapples:)

I agree with you Meg, alot of problems little dogs have is from bad or lack of training. My moms min pin is a hyper spaz and is only getting worse with age, mom just doesn't get that she need alot of discipline and exercise.
I don't agree that all breeds are equal though, some are just more prone to bitting then others and doxies are one of those. I've met super nice doxies but more often then not, they don't like strangers. I know snoopy wouldn't bite some one for no reason but if somebody grabbed me or broke into the house, they would have a very pissed dog to deal with.
My pit on the other hand, would watch me get murdered and play fetch with the bad guy afterwards LOL.

I'm not sure that it's true that they are more prone to biting. I think people make excuses because the "breed" is like that. It may be that the dachshund and other ground hunting dogs such as terriers used for hunting vermin and other aggessive ground prey are more dominant and require much more discipline to keep them from becoming dominant aggressive (true of many of the pit breeds) but it's not any different from any breed that has a dog that's dominant. I can show you a thousand breeds and if you have a dominant dog that is not curtailed, they will all show similar instances of imbalance including biting. Herding dogs will also bite if not kept from their "norma" behaviors...aka...herding. You have to channel that behavior in a more positive way. I've seen way too many dogs that are labeled as "aggressive breeds" when really they are a dominant breed. If you can control the dominance, aggression towards a person would never become an issue. Large or small...it's all about who's the boss and who ain't! I'm currently fostering a pit mix and a boxer mix that were rescues. Both have the potential to be dominant aggressive dogs. They are not allowed to show that behavior in my home though. Either with us or our other dogs. As a result....they are submissive, calm loving dogs. No biting on any one. They do tend to bully each other when they play, but even that is corrected if it gets out of hand.

anyone else here watch the Dog Whisperer? lol...He's a believer in the dominant and submissive natures of dogs as well..When you have a high active anxious dog you need to channel that energy into something positive..Zinc for example is a small dog with high energy. He was naturally bred to hunt small animals..Now we're not hunters in this house but I do let him use his talents with various games I play with him, and every day he gets at least 1 hour outside (along with his 2 walks a day) to run around and play and use up all that excess energy..When he growls or seems to be stepping out of place it is immediately corrected...So in the end we have a well balanced friendly dacshund who is friendly to both strangers, cats and other dogs :0)
