The official Black Milksnake thread!!

Dang what a major downer that must have been :awcrap:

RIP Ash

Still is, I need to find a breeding loan now, or maybe try a Black Milk X Hondo Hybrid or Black Milk x ? I have a few Kings and Milks to try pairing him with... We'll just have to see....

I feel you there...I been looking for another female myself and they are either no where to be found, or way too expensive. Found one today (4feet) for 350 shipped, I just aint there right now for that much dough to be spent ya know.

Yeah, there was someone on here with one for sale, so there are a couple that pop up every year, but they are expensive, especially for an adult.
I've been thinking about the Hondo cross for over a year now, and I have a Hondo female that's het Albino, so if I can pull off a breeding, it would be interesting to see if they stay Ontogenetic, and how it'd work with Albino... or if I use the Anery or Ghost females, if instead of the F2's turning black, they turn solid pink or grey... I think it could be a fun hybrid project...

I remember that one too and at the time thought she was priced pretty high as well! Now looking back maybe not haha! But yeah I got my female for $150 at almost 4 feet long about a year ago. Guess I got rather lucky.

So a Hondo Black cross huh? And yeah if they went solid pink or grey that would be pretty dang sweet!!! Good luck on that project there!! Would love to see if it will work and what would come from it!!!

Reviving this thread a little...

Well, my time came! Yesterday I went to the Missisauga Reptile Expo and I came home with my first black milk! I'm SO excited :D

I have named her Skatha, which is the name of the Welsh Goddess of the underworld/darkness/magic ;) Anywho, here are some pics I took before I put her away for the week

I'm definitely going to start a progression thread for her!

Thanks for looking :)

^^ Yaaaaay!!! Congratulations!! She is gorgeous!!!!

I have a new little lady being delivered to me tomorrow myself :) I named her Leila which is Arabic for "dark as night"

Thanks guys! I'll definitely share more pictures are she grows and transforms!! Oh and did I mention that I'm SUPER excited about her?? :D I think I did...hehehehe ;)

Took Skatha out today for the first time since I got her. She is such a calm snake! She's not flighty like I expected. Of course she has her moments, but they are very brief and then she goes back to calmly exploring my hands :)

She is so tiny!

She has the tiniest little black beady eyes ever! SO cute!

She also had a moment where she wasn't liking the camera too much. She striked at it once (with her mouth closed) and she did the S pose halfway. It didn't last very long though until she went back to being a nice snakey!

She seems to be quite the character already. I've noticed she enjoys hanging out at the front of her tub where she can see everything that's going on. None of my corns do that, so this is a treat!!

Thanks for looking :)

Well, I got my new little lady and she is somehow still alive after what she went through. The place where I purchased her told me after they had shipped her out that they had placed a requirement on the package that I be there to sign for it. I had told them prior that I work during the days and that I have a terrific front porch that is completely sheltered from weather and shaded from the sun all day long and that I track the package and then come right home once I know its there. Usually my lunch break. But they must have forgotten. Same with me as I always tell shippers not to require a signature. I have never had a problem until now due to the signature requirement. None of this would have happened had this not of been the case.

So I leave a note that morning on my way out for work, asking them (FedEx) to please leave the box by my front door and I signed the note as well. So later at work I am checking the tracking on it and I see an exception on the status saying no one was there to sign for package. I race home and find a note from Fed Ex that I have to be there to sign for it. I call customer service and they told me I would not be allowed to pick up the package at the hub either and that they would try again the next day. Pretty pissed at this point.

So all night I am praying for my little lady to be ok. Since I cant take time off work on such short notice I am forced to go to work in the morning and I leave another note with my cell number now too. This time I am beeeeegging the driver to leave the package or the animal inside would die. I go to work and clock in at 7:30am, and then I sneak home to wait for the driver at 9am hoping he comes within the same time frame as the day prior. Of course this does not happen. So I wait an hour and am finally am forced to leave and go back to work as I cant risk my job over this. I work about 30 minutes from home. Wouldnt you know as soon as I am pulling up to my work my cell phone rings. The driver calls me and tells me he is required to have a signature in person. I then plead and plead with him to leave the package or let me come meet him somewhere on his route. Finally he tells me that he will leave the package if I will call the main Fed Ex number and give positive feedback so he can be on better terms there. I agree to do this for him and he leaves the package. Thank God right!!! Wrong.

I leave work about 2 hours later to go get her and bring her inside to her new cage. Especially after being stuck in the box an extra night. When I get home I find that the driver, rather than leaving her at my front door in the shade, took her to my side yard and placed the box on top of my trash cans!!!!! There is no shade over there!!! The box clearly says all over it -PERISHABLE- DO NOT PLACE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT!!! I cant even believe it when I see this. He had to go completely out of his way to take the box over there and go through my side yard gate. I grab the box and race inside. I open it up and my poor girl is coiled upside down with her mouth completely open in a gasping position. I flip her over and there is no movement. She feels dead. I uncoil her and still no movement, her mouth wont close and and there is no reaction to anything from her. Then as I am going to put her down, I feel some tiny tiny form of muscle resistance from her body...I thought it was probably just the usual death jerks you feel when they have just passed. But still having hope, I go put her in the cage I had ready for her so I could get back to work and deal with it later. I grab a small liquid syringe and put some water in it. I put several drops into her gaping wide open mouth and I see a slight movement from her tongue area!!! Then the front part of her body twitches to the left a tiny bit!!! OMG!!! I gave her several more drops of water and then placed her in her cage in a comfy position just in case maybe there was still hope!! I had to get back to work so I closed up her tub since there was not really a ton more I could do. It was up to her now if she wanted to fight for her life, or just let go. I figured she would let go after the horror she endured. I left her by a shallow water dish just in case though. The last thing I did was pray to God to spare her little life as I held her head and kissed her.

About 3 hours later after work is done I head back home prepared for the worst. But I find something else!!!! I open the tub and find that she is fully revived and moving around in her tub slithering back and forth looking for a way to get out! She then looks up at me with what I swore was a little smile and then goes back to trying to escape like all happy healthy baby snakes do!! So dont nobody tell me God doesn't answer prayer!!! My girl who I thought was surely dead...is alive and squirming all over the place now :dancer:
It was like nothing had happened!! My little lady is a real life miracle!!! And because of that I decided to re-name her Nasya, which in Hebrew means just what she is...a miracle.

As soon as I can I will take some photos of my little miracle snake so that you can all see her :)

OMG! I can't believe you had to go through that because of some idiotic mail man :headbang: I would have made complaints ASAP! I'm glad that Nasya is doing great now, and I love her new name too! Can't wait for pics :D

And that's why I prefer to ship to someones work, Kinko's, or the Depot. The required signature was for both you and the breeders protection. As a breeder, if I saw that it was returned to the hub due to a delivery exception, my guarantee would have been voided, but like mentioned, I try to avoid home delivery. If a customer persists, I request a delivery day that they'll be home...

FYI: You can sign a signature waiver with the driver the next time you get a delivery, so it's on file for any deliveries in the future.

Yeah definitely that's even better! Had the breeder told me prior to shipping about the signature requirement I would have taken the day off. It just wasn't something we had talked about (I just assumed no sig would be needed) and they told me after shipping. I couldn't request a day off on such short notice at my work unfortunately. And yes there can be no breeder guarantee for an exception that arises like what happened here. I have no qualm with them at all, but I will make it a much higher point to address when we discuss the shipping side of the deal.

Good to know about the waiver though!!! I will look into that so that this NEVER happens again!!! In the past every driver has left the box for me by the front door when I leave a note. I just dont understand what this driver was thinking.
