The ones you don't have

How come all the varieties of corn(or any snake) that you don't have always seem so much more attractive than the ones you do? Isn't there something philosophical about it?
I don't like the phrase "familiarity breeds contempt", but kinda see it happening when I think about the 6 varieties I have(Amel, Anery, Hypo, Blizz, Ghost and Motley). When I picked those out, it was because I wanted this color or that pattern, and wanted to produce a morph or two I thought was prettiest in snakes, but now that I have them, I think they are just hohum and want Lavenders, Bloods, Opals, Pewter, Caramels, and a couple others I can't think of right now.
Anyone also feel like that sometimes?

I have no hankering for any lavender morphs or caramels either to own myself, but I do appreciate seeing other members' collections.
The biggest influences were seeing Love and Abbotts Okeetees, I had to get my Love okeetee as soon as I found one! :)

I pretty much have everything I want...or the genetics to make anything I want. EXCEPT I need a pair of butter stripes to make it all complete. I had thought I was all done last year, but apparently I'm not.

I have an amazing pair of lavenders het blood and stripe. A small percentage of their offspring will be lavender blood stripes, but in order to know for sure they will need to be test bred.
The butter stripe pair will not only yield butter stripe offspring, but when bred to a lavender stripe that is tested out NOT homo blood I will get stripes het for lavender, amel and caramel. So,,,yeah, I NEED a pair of butter stripes! :)

i dont not like what i have i just want more...i pretty much just want everything and i dont have room for everything so i cant have everything that i want.

I think it has to do with the whole, the grass is always greener thing.
Sure you love what you have but 'ooooh look at what they have also it's so pretty I want it now!'

I decided to return the corns I had (couple of bloods and ambers) and just stick to the amel het anery A and classic het snow I have.
What I would like though... maybe a pair of hypo bloods I suppose... but really, my major attraction at current goes to Mexicana Kingsnakes... mostly Thayeri/Greeri/Mexicana... They are amazing, and their genetics seems a deal more variable too... much more room for surprises.

They are also uncommon, so it's kins of a personal quest of mine.

When I grew up I was very good at finding garter snakes. Yellow and black striped critters. I thought that snakes with bands or saddles were the coolest thing and I always liked them better. Garter snakes were just common as dirt and had little value to me.

To this day whenever I see someone breeding a snake to have stripes, I'm like WHY?

I even didn't like jungle carpets for awhile because they're yellow and black.

I like to buy snakes and play with different colors or patterns. But when I go to buy snakes, I have a hard time finding something new that really interests me. I often go to web sites and look at all the snakes a come away disappointed with nothing.

Then all of a sudden I'll see a snake and I must have it. It usually isn't something new. It just seems really special now for some reason.

I raised lavenders years ago and grew tired of them and sold them. Then all of a sudden I must have Lavender Stipes. I've done the same with Butter Stripes and Butter Motely.

I ended up with a Caramel Motely by accident this year and suddenly they are looking interesting.

I do think it is partly the Grass Is Greener syndrome.
