The World is Missing it's Greatest Drummer

AshleyShadows

It piss me so bad.
I know that most of y'all won't even know who this is or the band he came from, but Jimmy Sullivan, drummer of Avenged Sevenfold, died yesterday. I can't even express how devastated I am about this. I was supposed to have dinner with him (along with jlindp and RowanRR), but he couldn't make it due to a family health issue. We dined with 3 of his band mates and we were supposed to be meeting him this coming summer.

This man, only 28 years old, was one of the funniest human beings on the planet, and he rocked the drums like you'd never believe. He's also the name sake of my first snake.

I guess I felt like sharing this so I could maybe start to heal..I know it sounds stupid because I hadn't even met the guy yet. But he was truly a hero to me, and the music he made could always make my darkest days bright. Even my parents were crying today when I told them.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends - especially to his band members because he was truly a brother to them. The lead singer had been his best friend since second grade.

I miss you, Jimmy.

Two less than appropriate words in this one.

Yeah it really is. Thanks for responding..kind of thought I was the only one that cared.

I'm about to go into work..lol and I don't think I can make it without crying. I know they wouldn't understand me just losing my "hero"..so I'm thinking of just saying I lost a friend. After all, I am actually friends with some of the other band members..just hadn't had the chance to meet him yet.

As a musician, I always care when one of our own passes on. And having listened to, and enjoyed, Avenged Sevenfold, I will say that it is a very unfortunate loss.

That's very sad. I am not familiar with the group, but it's a very real situation, and I can relate to how I would feel losing an idol. Another young person too, which only adds to the tragedy. That's too bad that you were unable to meet him in person before this transpired, but I'm sure you'll do a great job keeping his name alive through your memories, and playing his music. After all... music is eternal, and he was fortunate in at least getting his talent out for the world to see beforehand.

Take care, and I'm very sorry for your loss!

I cried so hard when I heard this last night. I really couldn't believe it was true. I still don't. I wish I could take back all those things I said about Jimmy. He was really growing on me and now...? A7X will never be the same. I just don't know what to think. :[

RIP, Jimmy. Whatever I may have thought of you, you were indeed the greatest drummer I ever heard, and I'm sure you're banging out some beats in Heaven. <3

So young. I love their music and had hoped to eventually be able to attend one of their concerts. :(

I don't know their music that well, but the videos were fantastic. I'm sorry you lost someone important to you.

Guys, thank you all so much for your support. It really means a lot.
They even let me leave early at work today.

Lol Jessica, I never understood why you didn't like him. Sure, he wasn't the most attractive human being, but that band will never be the same. His talent will never be surpassed.

It just really hits home when someone you love dies (I know I never met him, but still..I really do love him). I'm just so sad he left so many people behind..friends, family, fans, and a wife. I really fear for the band too. I know they'll continue on in his honor, but it won't ever be the same.

I bawled like a baby when I found out. I first heard this band when I was 16 and Waking the Fallen had just come out. I fell in love with those guys and have seen them any times. Rev was one of the best drummers in rock and roll right now. When I have students who play set and want to hear good rock set players I put in some 'unholy confessions' and watch their eyes. Sigh...I'm sad.

Wow, I have a friend who is a huge Avenged Sevenfold fan, and is a drummer herself. She's going to be shocked. What a shame.

I'm so happy to see another fan, and I'm so sorry..just that he's dead and you're feeling it too. I wanted to meet him so bad. I was told that I could call the lead singer once they started touring so we could watch them from the stage and hang out afterwards. That way we'd also get to meet the drummer and Zacky (rhythm guitar) since they couldn't make it to the dinner we went to with the rest of them.

Without sounding 100% corny, I can't wait to meet him in the afterlife. And here's Afterlife, a song Jimmy had a huge part in writing.

I kinda hope they play this at the funeral, I played it first thing this morning.

I was driving today and that song came on...burst into tears. Every song makes me think of him. I wish I could go to that funeral..wish I could at least send flowers.

In a few weeks, I think I'm going to text Matt, the lead singer of the band, and tell him how sorry we are and how much we miss Jimmy.

There's rumors circulating that he was murdered. I sure hope they remain just that, rumors. I would really like to know what happened, though. I mean, as far as we all knew, he was clean and sober. This poor men. I don't even want to know how much they're hurting. And poor Leanna, too... :[

I wasn't familiar with Avenged Sevenfold, but if that music video is any indication at all, this is a great loss. Dunno if Jimmy Sullivan is the greatest drummer EVER but he certainly has the chops to be right up there with the drumming gods and now we won't get to hear what he would have done next. So sad.

I can't imagine anyone would want to do that to him. But if it did happen, you'd better bet someone will take him down. I'm hoping it wasn't drugs either. I was so, so proud when they said he'd cleaned up.

And I will always think of him drumming during the storms from now on! Thanks for that one, Jessica!
