Thinking about getting my first Ball Python

iv been wanting her for a few months now and no one has bought her so im thinking about getting her she is about 3 or 4 years old (i think) and is currently being kept in a 10 gallon and i really want to give her more room and get her off eating a few fuzzies every week when she could be eating a small rat at her size she is in good health and has really cool markings. i know her previous owner and the reason she is at my friends pet store is because her old mommy is only allowed to have two pets and she got her bearded dragon a girlfriend.

here is a pic of me holding her for the second time. this happened the first time but i forgot to take pics lol. she doesnt do this as much now that she has gotten to know me

She looks like a lovely snake. I've thought about ball pythons in the past, but when i went with a cornsnake i got hooked and now corns have my full attention.
If you have the space, time, supplies, energy...why not?
but here's a good question, would you still want her if she was in a properly sized enclosure eating the proper size food? if she didnt need to be 'rescued' as it were. if my boyfriend could see this post he would be calling me out on that. I've had my fair share of animals that would not have otherwise ended up with me had they not needed someone. but its still a fair point to concider. not saying thats the only reason why that snake has your attention
having said all that...it seems like you are pretty sure you want her...so if you think that you can give better quality of life and fit her into your current collection (whatever that might be) what other reasons do you need? :p

iv thought about it and she seems to be pretty happy in her current tank she usually stays in her hide all day (when she isnt getting a drink) but i really just like her... ALOT and i have the space for her and definitely have the time to get her out everyday and work on that little habit of biting she has (not that it bothers me but i would like for people to not be scared of my snakes)

my current collection is nine 09 corns (trying to sell 4) a cal king, and a red tail boa

Well I certainly would not pay more than that anyway for a normal female. I also think she is very small for a 3/4 year old. She must not have been eatting very well. She seems pretty thin in that picture.
But yeah if you have time and space why not! I personally wished I had saved up and bought morphs not normals for my first BP...but thhat is okay I love him still.

well id ont know much about ball pythons as far as genetics and morphs but im assuming they can have hets like corns? so i dont know if she has any hets but i once the first few bites after first getting her out (when i brought her home one night) she was just slithering around (slowly making her way up to my face which i dont allow) but she stops to smell my arm and then she will slowly open her mouth to bite me its very weird but i just pulled her away from my arm as she was closing her mouth to bite. anyone else had an experience like this?

Sounds like she is very hungry. I would not advise buying her personally. I am not interested in getting a snake that bites right off the bat. She is just a normal...there are too easy to adopt free from everywhere or get a baby with known genetics for the same price. The other thing is you don't know if she has parasites or other problems that are leading to the weight loss and I would not want to introduce that to my home. Lastly I would wonder if she was a CH or a WC animal instead of a CB that I would personally feel safer with.
It's just my opinion though....

Concerning BP morphs/hets, it seems to me that anything with hets in the BP world costs more than "just" a normal and is always advertised with its genetics. Especially since all the BP morphs (AFAIK) are either co-dominant or "expensive" recessives (pied and albino come to mind). I would never breed either of my normal BPs expecting to get any sort of morph, even if I bred each of them to all of the "known" recessive morphs/hets.

well im really not even thinking of breeding her for probly a few years IF I DECIDE TO GET HER i just want to get her in a bigger cage and get her nice and healthy

brought her home 3 days ago!!! tomorrow im going to go get her food so i will have it when im ready to feed her. i already have a perfect bite mark on my arm from her/him (also going to get her/him probed by a professional tomorrow) and then work on getting her/his weight up and maybe in a year or two breed her/him. she/he has been in the hide since i brought her/him home and seems to be happy to be in a clean cage with clean water. the biggest cage i had was a 20 gallon tall which i think is perfect for her/his current size and i plan on getting somethings for her/him to climb on so she/he can get more exercise i would post some new pics but my cell is off right now. when my cell is back on ill post new pics of her/him

Good luck with her. I hope you haven't bitten of more then you can chew. I know your young and won't give you any more advice then I do another teen on here. You have many years ahead of you and I hope you are not forgetting what may lay ahead of you as you collect more animals. Please don't forget what the future may bring you and try to resist more critters. Good luck to you in whatever you do.
