Murphy's Guinea Pig
Wanted to start a progression thread for baby Tyrion. He's a male NG frilled dragon and we're currently working on removing the blankets from his enclosure, something he's not terribly pleased with. He eats like a pig, as evidenced by his little bearded dragon belly, and tolerates handling really well for a baby. He's about 8 weeks old, according to the breeder. This was the first picture he's let me take of him - he's been terrified of the camera up until now:

Haha he still has the bobble head. He'll grow fast- you won't even realize how much they grow!
 
Tyrion's had his blanket off his enclosure for two days now and I've started doing short handling sessions with him. Last night was his first time in the living room watching a movie and he did really well. Going to do a little photo session with him today or tomorrow, so I just have this one pic for now. :)

SO cute! I almost rescued one from a mall pet shop the other day, was having a horrid shed and was perched on a hot rock. I should learn to just not even walk in those places.

He gets so white and grey now. I'm determined to get some close up pictures of him when I get back home.
 
Tyrion got his new enclosure courtesy of Kai at Black Panther Reptiles! My boyfriend decorated the inside and it's not quite completed yet, but it's done enough to move Tyrion into it!

Thank you! Kai does amazing work - his living vivariums for geckos are simply stunning. He's coming by over the weekend to get the waterfall installed and more cork drilled in for more ledges. I may see if we can add a second basking fixture later as the temps are not quite where I would like them to be.

I've wanted a frilled dragon for the longest time, they are seriously neat critters.
 
Tyrion is growing like a weed (and maybe addicted to waxworm treats) so we decided to work with him with harness training again. He responds well to a clicker and bits of waxworms, so, armed with both, I stuffed him into the harness. The idea is just to get him to associate the harness with good things, so he just gets waxies when he's wearing it. He hated it at first, then pouted and refused food.

But eventually he started taking the waxies and we were able to do several click-treat repetitions. We're also working on getting him to learn his name, which helps when he's having a stare down with the cat and I need to redirect him. I never knew how smart these guys were, they're just amazing.

The clicker training is really seeming to help. His hissy fits about having it on didn't last nearly as long as they used to, and he calmed down and started to be curious and explore for longer.
 
Up until now, I think I've only showed the upsides of having a frilled. Today was a perfect example of the downsides. Tyrion had the worst hissy fit I've ever seen tonight. He was flailing around, tail lashing, biting, hissing, and racing around his viv. He also would NOT take anything from me tonight, not waxies, dubia, or superworms. He's usually a pretty mellow guy, but when he throws a temper tantrum, boy does he throw a big one. His bites actually hurt now that his fangs have come in. They used to be tiny pin pricks, but he got me pretty good tonight.

I think before Toothless became anorexic, that was his normal behavior. Ever sice he stopped eating he has become really docile. I guess it's because he is lethargic :( I never got bit though, that really sucks. I have seen the teeth on Toothless! They are not nice looking!
 
Angry pics make me want one really bad! I had never really looked into them, maybe one will make it onto my list.
 
There are days where he is my favourite pet, and days I seriously contemplate strangling him. :nope: Frilleds are tough, both in temperament and in husbandry. I'm lucky in that Tyrion still eats regularly, though he still looks underweight to me. Definitely not filled out like many fat bellied frilleds I see, though it may just be his age.
 
Oh man, and I would cry when my disabled beardie had a tantrum. I couldn't imagine how rough his must be. D:
Thanks for sharing the downsides of these critters too, it's always good to learn about the tough bits as well as the really fun bits.
