Unwilling female?

Sisuitl

I dig'em!
I have a situation here and am not quite sure what to make of it. This is my first time actually trying to breed my corns, so...This isn't quite what I was expecting to happen.

Circe, my amel mot is 4 years old, she's a virgin. I finally found a great male for her, a proven butter. I cycled them, woke them up. Put them together and nothing. So I separated them until she shed (a week later) and put them back together again. The butter went crazy, doing his herky jerky dance, the moment she went into his enclosure he lifted his tail and everted hemipenes. He's been trying really hard to get her to cooperate for about 15 minutes.

She is trying to escape, whipping her body around whenever he tries to line his body up with her, throwing him off, tail rattling, climbing the walls, etc. I am about ready to separate them since she is obviously distressed. Why is she so distressed? Is she confused about what he is doing? I thought instinct would kind of take over here. Is there a physiological reason, like her body isn't ready to produce eggs or something? Does she not like him? I have a hypo bloodred male who got very interested in what was happening (caged separately but he could see them). He everted his hemipenes too, even though she wasn't in the same enclosure. Does she just hate the butter? Might she be more receptive to the blood? I'm not really sure what causes behavior like this and any insight would be appreciated.

I know your in the states so weather cycles are different, but, while both my males have just had their pre spring shed, and are ready for breeding. (1 of them is going mental) Both my adult females have yet to shed and are showing no interest at all. One of them is a proven breeder and when shes ready nothing stops her. Its just that the Males always come into season 1st.
The females I find can be 3 or 4 weeks behind.
As long as shes healthy dont worry, nature will take its course.

It may take her some time to get uesd to the idea of...you know. Hyper, assertive males can really freak out a first time female. My female snow stripe (virgin) has been fending off my male snow for three weeks now. They were not brumated. I put them together twice a week for the last three weeks and she would race around, struggling to get out. Finally, after much mayhem and frustration, she allowed him to breed her yesterday. I think you should keep trying them every three-four days and slowly she'll come around.

It may also take till her next shed (the ovulating one)before she will allow him to breed.

Yes, it sounds like the female just isn't ready quite yet. And I've also found that some females need much more courtship than others. 15 minutes may just not be enough time. If a female is REALLY doing alot of running away, I'll try the pair again in a few days. But I've let the male chase certain females around for quite awhile, often leaving them over-night, just because I know that's what those females need. And you will get the rare female that simply doesn't like a certain male...never allowing him to mate with her.

Thanks everybody! I'll keep trying them together. She actually scraped the end of her nose trying to escape, so I'll give her a little time for it to heal up. Next time I'll put them in a deep enough tub she can't really climb around and hurt her face anymore. Jimmy is a pretty hyper guy when it comes to the girls. If it really isn't working long term I may try her with the blood to see if she responds differently.
