I dig'em!
I have a situation here and am not quite sure what to make of it. This is my first time actually trying to breed my corns, so...This isn't quite what I was expecting to happen.
Circe, my amel mot is 4 years old, she's a virgin. I finally found a great male for her, a proven butter. I cycled them, woke them up. Put them together and nothing. So I separated them until she shed (a week later) and put them back together again. The butter went crazy, doing his herky jerky dance, the moment she went into his enclosure he lifted his tail and everted hemipenes. He's been trying really hard to get her to cooperate for about 15 minutes.
She is trying to escape, whipping her body around whenever he tries to line his body up with her, throwing him off, tail rattling, climbing the walls, etc. I am about ready to separate them since she is obviously distressed. Why is she so distressed? Is she confused about what he is doing? I thought instinct would kind of take over here. Is there a physiological reason, like her body isn't ready to produce eggs or something? Does she not like him? I have a hypo bloodred male who got very interested in what was happening (caged separately but he could see them). He everted his hemipenes too, even though she wasn't in the same enclosure. Does she just hate the butter? Might she be more receptive to the blood? I'm not really sure what causes behavior like this and any insight would be appreciated.
