Got him out today for a little photo shoot. Thought I would share some pictures. Sorry they aren't that great. I need to set up a little studio. I tried my best though. :)

On bed, with flash:

Another update.

Got some more pictures today in better lighting. These are closer, but not exact, to what he looks like in person. Definitely much pinker.

Thanks everyone!! :D

To Danielle - is chunky monkey a bad thing? I'm so paranoid about over feeding him.

Very nice looking boa! I love his coloration and clean look.

Do you what his genetic makeup is?

As for feeding, he looks great! Not too fat at all from where I am sitting.

Thank you! I always get nervous about feeding him because he's so much more tubby than my corns. They need a Munson Plan for boas. Lol.

As for genetics he was sold as a Hog Island x Longicauda cross. Not sure exactly if that actually is what he is (I have another thread with a whole debate about it), but the guy who sold him to me only had pure hog islands and longicaudas for sale and seemed pretty sure of himself.

I am not expert on Boa localities. I work with a small group mainly for their genetics and appearance. I love boas of all sorts!

Here is a good link to Longicaudas:
http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/boas_long.htm

Wade had or still has Hog Islands.

IF that was what a breeder had on his table, then most likely he knows what he had. Why he chose to cross breed, I have no idea.

You could go to a 10 day feed schedule. I do the 10 to 15 days for the ones that are over two years old and doing good. My older girl, 8yrs+ and over 6 ft and about 25lbs, eats once every 3 weeks and is doing great. She eats once a month between December and February. She is doing great!

My male possible Super Salmon, has the same small head but that is just how that line is. He eats on the 15 day schedule for the most part.

So how old is this boa?
How often are you feeding him and what are you feeding him?

I have a good boa breeder friend and he only feeds his breeding females more often before breeding season and after they give birth. If you need more help, I am sure I can get you more information. But it looks like you are doing good by Gauge so far!

And yes, you do not want a fat boa...it will shorten his life span. They dont eat like corns at all!! Yet, they will if you offer it to them.

I didn't mean he was fat- just obviously eating well. My male only eats live so he's fed every two weeks though when he ate his f/t it was every 10 days and he's a little under a year old. Gauge looks great:)

Thanks for the compliments! :D

As for Gauge's age he was 99 grams when I got him back in mid January. I'm not sure when he was born. I think the guy said he was an 09, no clue on a date of birth. He was also really underweight when I got him, his spine stuck out really bad. For feeding he was on baby rats but the guy I get my rats from said to move to what he called 'rat hoppers' now. The hoppers weigh about 40 grams each. He said to feed once a week, but I'm concerned about him getting fat. The last thing I want to do is powerfeed him. He weighs 180 grams btw. What do you all recommend?
