Video For Robbie (Worm Size)

Great choice of music. :)

What kind of worms are you feeding her in the vid? We've been giving Roland super worms, but we cut them in half so they're not so big.

Those are hornworms. They grow fast and get huge! When you buy them, they are the size of inchworms, and in days they weigh something like 12-14 grams, double the size of the worms in the video! I usually feed silkworms- you can get those in any size you want, and they don't grow that fast.

I'll have to see if I can find silkworms for him. He's still pretty small, so the hornworms would be way too big. lol

We've had a heck of a time finding good protein filled food for him. He likes his greens so that's not an issue, and we can get dandelion greens at the grocery store here, which helps a lot because those are his favorites. At the pet store they keep telling us to give him mealworms though, which you know isn't a good idea.

I mail order mine from Coastal Silkworms. I had a bad experience with Mulberry Farms. I've ordered from CS a million times with no problems.

Have you tried Phoenix Worms? Those are like crack for Isabel. And they are small.

No, I haven't tried those either. Can I get them online as well?

So far his staple insects have been crickets and superworms since that's what we can easily get for him. I'd like to get him off the crickets though because I know they carry things that aren't so good.

If you have a source you'd recommend I'll put in an order. Thanks for the help!

Oh... I just saw that Coastal Silkworms has Phoenix worms too. I should have looked before I posted. lol

Isabel hasn't had worms since she got off crickets, but she still has to be treated for coccidia once a year.

I got some hornworms for Ani at the last show I went to. At first he wouldn't touch them (he had a pet worm for a day), but when he finally did eat one, he was addicted! I'm sure Craig will love them too.

are hornworms alright for a big adolesant? shes 17 inches long and eats tons of worms and crix right now. and hornworms seem like they may fill her up more. would it be ok you think? any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, they start out small, so you just feed at the appropriate size. They are very soft, though, so you can feed a pretty large worm.

thank you. i bet cali is going to love these. she loves her supers and crickets. i wanna try dubia roaches too sometime soon.
