I was just reading this article and I was wondering what are the odds of people not going to one. Simple poll to see what most of us do.

Personally I go to Wal-Mart for almost everything. Pet supplies, sporting goods, bed sets, vehicles stuff, groceries, landscaping, bathroom supplies, and anything really. I don't go everyday but I might be in there 1-2 times a week. I guess we go there so often because we live in a smaller town without Target, K-mart, Roses, and other stores like that.
 
I honestly cannot afford to shop elsewhere for things. I hate to say it, but I cannot afford to have principles on some things. In addition, in my area, Walmart does provide a lot of jobs for people who otherwise might not have one. Just like all things, I think the media picks the most "news-worthy" side of the story and people who are hot to jump on a bandwagon pick up on it.

If the stuff I buy there is made by Chinese children, and the coffee is farmed by underpaid farmers in South America, and the money they get, even if it's not up to Western standards, helps to feed and clothe their families, well... that's not necessarily a bad thing is it? And is it really up to the USA to fight other countries battles for them? If China wants to not have children work, or wants to change the hours they work, let China fight that battle. If South American countries want to fight for living wages, let those countries fight that battle.

It's not up to America to be the worlds police force, nor its moral compass.
 
I've been boycotting them for a while. I watched a documentary about them a while back, where it showed how bad the employees were treated, how little the company donates to charitable causes, and also how other stores and even manufacturers had been put out of business because of wal mart. This may have changed some since they made that movie but I still dislike the idea of one big behemoth store where everything is cheap and I still think it has repercussions to small mom and pop stores etc if I shop there. I would rather see my money go into a local storeowner or at least to a business based in the Pac Northwest. More and more I find myself wishing there were more stores that featured higher quality products instead of cheap stuff from China. But I wonder how many people that complain about today's economy would be willing to spend an extra dollar or two for something that says "Made in the U.S.A." Probably not many...
 
I'm there all the time, I get just about everything there besides food and lumber lol. In my small town there really isn't much anywhere else to go. We have a Walmart, a Lowes, and a K-Mart. We also have a Radio Shack which has some use but is basically an over-priced electronics store lol. K-Mart is a joke here, it has on average 1 register open and 20 associates walking around. Plus their deals are terrible compared to Walmart, tbh I don't know why they are still here...

Our Walmart sells some food, but not a lot, so we grocery shop at Tops.

Our town doesn't even have a pet store anymore, you can get fish and pet supplies at Walmart. I have to either drive an hour away to buy Frozen rodents at Petco or order them in bulk online.
 
My views resemble those of Lauren. My income doesn't really encourage me to boycott low price stores on principles. And I am not sure that "Made In America" is feasible anyway, I fear that US workers priced themselves out of that market, largely to support large lifestyles.
 
I shop at Walmart occasionally. I am pretty lucky to live in an area where there are lots of choices besides Walmart.

However, I am a fan and frequent http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ That site is always great for a healthy belly laugh- so hard sometimes that tears roll from my eyes and I nearly wet myself. :grin01: Definitely a self esteem booster.

That website and their pictures is a RIOT!!! Thanks so much for sharing it. I got to page 3 of the pictures and I couldn't stop laughing at the picture named "One Dollar To Look At It, Two Dollars To Touch It"

The amazing thing about that site is we have ALL seen people like that shopping in Walmart.

I saw that one too... where is the dignity? The modesty? Sense of style? What was SHE thinking????
 
I also am not able to shop elsewhere because of money constraints. I shop wallyworld for pet supplies and the basic necessities for the home. Otherwise I go to save-alot and dollar general.
 
I think it is a socio-cultural thing in the deep south. Social and cultural...LOL.
I mean, where else can you find that many people 'multi-tasking'? 99% are on a flipping cell phone.
I fall between sometimes and all the time. You can't swing a dead cat in Baton Rouge without hitting a WalMart, so it would take more energy to avoid one than to go to one.

Somedays I want to be invisible and sneak in and sneak out,...and somedays I carry my WalMart bingo card and people-watch as I wander around. I try to carry a list to minimize wandering.

I know the Bingo Card has been posted before, but I thought I would show it to any new folks who haven't seen it.
It goes hand in hand with peopleofwalmart.com.
