I agree, Kathy. We have a lot of white, but I don't think it looks sterile by any means. And the great thing about paint is that you can re-do it! For example, one of my prize projects, this sliding door, is definitely not something that would appeal to all, but we can repaint it if we need to down the road!

for some reason I do not like blue walls...light blues, dark blues, soft blues, pastel blues, etc...

I've always loved green though...but not anything too bright or neon-y. And not forest/hunter green. My bedroom is painted forest/hunter green (not my choosing, previous owners) and I hate it. The other bedroom is painted blue, as well as the bathroom...you can imagine how I feel about that.

I think that the big, circular art graphic, and the orange wall in the other room, work great to counteract the sterility of whitish walls. The rooms have character, and they look like a real person actually lives there, rather than some decorator made it just to sell well to the general public.

Although I have very definite preferences in color and decor, I can really appreciate all design efforts that look well put together and reflect the character of the inhabitants. I have often seen houses or apartments that I can appreciate as very beautiful, but that I definitely would not want to live in myself, because they are just not "me". I think that many people would probably agree with that, if they really stopped to analyze their feelings about the various styles and colors of home design that they see.

Thanks, Kathy! We USED to have orange walls in that whole room, but when I built cabinetry that didn't look good on the pale orange, we tried to imagine everything but white and only white looked good with the new cabinetry. So, white it was. And we switched from an orange and purple color scheme to what ended up being much more grown-up and hard-core modern (which we like) white, red and black. This is a pic of in-process--that cabinetry disappeared against the orange, and pops much better against the white. (This view is the wall to the right of the big open door to the bedroom in the previous pic.)

Orange and purple - whew! It wouldn't be my first choice, lol! But it could be done well, I am sure. And if the inhabitants can enjoy it, who would I be to say "nay"? But I like this much better!

I decided on the blue (it is actually more of an aqua). So since my Thanksgiving dinner will be tomorrow, I painted the living room today.

I thought the kitty (who was snow white) would have more sense but she didn't. She brushed against a wall and now has a blue rump.

So now she matches the living room

I love colorful walls, my various houses throughtout the years, and currently have been referred to as "California House"
You can see some of the colors in the backgrounds of my paintings album, here:

my favorite is the 'red room', the walls are painted what is called "pottery red", looks like a raw red clay.

I like the red clay color, and those are beautiful paintings.
