Wall Of Snakes Progression Thread

I agree the bins would be prettier if they were completely clear. I guess you have to make compromises. With this type, I can remove a bin, do a thorough cleaning, sterilize it if I need to, move snakes easily from one location to another depending on their "job" that year. For example, I like the breeding females to be in the center two rows, where I can easily see what they are doing in terms of getting into their lay boxes, shedding, etc. Then, if a female is not breeding that year, she can move to a more "remote" section. I like to have males in the male rack across the room, especially in the lower six bins if I know they will be breeding. So males that are not going to be used that season can be moved higher up in the racks, or even over to the male end of the big rack. I have females that are out on breeding loan. I can remove their bins, spruce them up, put a lid on and store them in another room with all the snake's belongings so it is all ready for her when she returns home. I also like to keep a bin on the far left center empty to use as a breeding bin. Super-easy to clean in between couples- easy to see what they are up to without being intrusive.
 
Wow! Looks great, Nanci. Definitely an orderly, clean and spacious setup for all of your snakes. I'm impressed with the details you've added to the cages as well (and I'm sure the snakes especially appreciate it too)!

I too used to think of the tubs as a gloomy prison. But I guess that was more from the outside looking in (literally). As far as the snakes go, I don't think they mind what material their enclosures are made of, as long as their needs are met the same. And it certainly makes it that much easier to clean and keep up with, having them be so organized and convenient to reach in and clean/feed.
