It will be ok if we can find out more about the area. You can get some info from the internet but its not the same as seeing it for yourself. The kids are really hoping we go because there is 42 acres of land with the house, mostly trees, and they could run around and be noisy and not bother anyone.I am starting to warm to the idea,it all depends now on whether my husband accepts the job or not
42 acres? Jeez, now I'm jealous. I'm sold. Do it. If anything, Mecklenburg County, where Chase City is, is beautiful country. LOTS of things to do outdoors. On 42 acres, you have LOTS of space.
Chase City isn't really all that out of the way. It's nestled in south central Virginia. It's between South Boston and Emporia, a big town and a small city respectively. Both have everything you need. Danville is a very nice small city with all necessities.

The good part about Virginia is that you really aren't more than a couple of hours from anything in the state. It would be a few hours to the coast, or a few hours to the mountains, both do-able. You could go north to Richmond (medium sized city) in about an hour or south to Raleigh-Durham (very nice medium sized cities) in about the same time. In three, or three and a half hours you could be in Washington, DC.
The more I think about it, the better it sounds.
One thing, Chase City is COUNTRY. If you REALLY want to fit in

, your husband might consider acquiring the following:
A pick up truck, with or without a gun rack. A trailer hitch is a must.
A couple of these:
Because these are very plentiful, fun to catch:
Oh, and since you would be living so close to Lake Kerr, arguably the best lake in Virginia for fishing, one of these wouldn't hurt:
If you move here, we'll get you turned into a Virginian real fast
