We Think this IS a Corn Snake!!

She actually never says python! I will call tomorrow to see if the local shelters got the snake. If not I will have to wait until Monday to call the Animal Hospital that I am pretty sure they took it to.

Its possible the picture they used is not of the actual snake seen, just one they had on file (assuming that the general public doesnt know/care about the differences).

But whether it was a python or not, it was a whole TWO AND A HALF FEET LONG!!!!!! :sidestep: Poor kid, scarred for life by the savage beast....

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

OMG, I just looked at the video......is that lady seriously a VET?!?!?!?!?! Is she serious?????? That is so sad. I hope someone who knows what that snake really is gets to adopt it.

LMAO@Python. I know the vet never called it a "python", but I would assume it was she who told the station that's what it is. See it's ignorance like that, that gives the whole snake community a bad name. If they had known it was a corn snake chances are there wouldn't be much of a story to begin with. Makes me sad, the stupidity of so called professionals

:roflmao:

I had to send them this email......

I'm sure you all have been told by now, but it's a HARMLESS Corn Snake not a soon to be 10' killer Python. I would be more concerned about the exposed wires under the dishwasher than the "man eater" on the prowl. If you ever have to report on a pitbull attack, make sure you don't show photos of a toy poodle. LOL

LOL... now that's a good one. Hope you get a response on it!

The snake is at the veterinary hospital where I thought it would be. They have arranged for the Animal Rescue League of Boston to pick it up tomorrow. I will call the person in charge of unwanted pets in the am and see if I can just take it off their hands. (By the way my daughter this morning says to me "Can we find out more about the python - haha!")

I told the woman on the phone that the snake was a cornsnake and she told me they knew since they had taken it to a local pet shop to have it ID'd! I am pretty sure it is the TV station that sensationalized the whole thing.

I'll let you know if I manage to adopt him/her.

"this breed of python can grow to over 10 feet in length"
"The bite barely left a mark on Angel's toe, but did leave the teen with an emotional scar."
"Angel will be OK"
It actually makes me more mad than it is funny.

Oh, and I forgot the best part "What Angel Marquez, Jr. felt was a two-and-a-half-foot, albino python."
Yup, pretty big "python"

I can't stop laughing at the stupidity. What makes me sick though is a vet saying it's a python. If I ever see that vet she will never touch my dog because she might think its a cat.

Thx for sharing it was funny yet I feel disgusted on how wrong the news cast and the vet were.

As funny as it is, it is really far more sad. It is this sort of sensationalism that breeds contempt and fear in the minds of the uninformed public about snakes and snake owners.

Sadly, if PETA gets a hold of a story or two like this, it will be blown so far out of proportion that it wouldn't surprise me to see legislation take effect to prevent "future viscious attacks of this nature".

And even more sadly, these idiots don't know and even more, don't care what kind of ignorance they helping to breed in the mind of the public.

Truly, truly sad...

Meet Monty!

Monty is now in his new home. He is skinny but otherwise looks to be in ok health. He's got some rough spots on his scales that also have black but they don't move and I am hoping that they are just remnants of his travels through the dishwasher and who knows what else. The black does not seem to be on his skin either so I am hoping this is not a sign of an infection. He is about 3 feet or more and just over 300 g. They fed him 4 - 5 pinkies Friday and so far has kept them down nicely. I'll give him a fuzzie or two on Wednesday and gradually move him up to adults.

Please ignore the water. We need a larger water dish and he has already spilled some water in his cage.

Stuff like this makes me think that all people hate snakes. Then I remember how many snake breeders there are:eek1:

Congrats! I am happy that someone knowledgeable was able to rescue him. What a fantastic name as well :grin01:
He will live out his days in new comfort, no more dishwashers for him, and mice is whats for dinner now... no more "toes"

Keep us updated on this guy for sure.

I'm so HAPPY that you have him!!! What a great ending to a ridiculous story.

I can only imagine how happy he is to be in a warm enclosure with the possibility of more and more groceries to come. He does look thin, but hey, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Just, eh, be sure your enclosure is buttoned down. He may have already proven his skill as an escape artist. (I almost adopted a dog who had a history of escaping before I came to my senses and realized that he was not going to stop trying to get out just because I was the new owner.)

I'm just so very happy that Monty's got a home.
