Hey what do you guys and gals use to weigh you snakes?

I know that, but i mean what type of scale and how do you do it?

I put them in a collander. For some, it's a tight fit.

I love this scale, but it likes to tell me the battery is low when it isn't. If I open the battery compartment and close it again, the message goes away for a while.

I'm still using a tiny little digital scale that I got off of e-bay for around $15. The only problem with it is that it only goes up to 500 grams, so I have to weigh my biggest girl on a kitchen scale and then convert it back to grams. Also, I have to put a tiny cup between the scale and what ever I am weighing the snake in (usually their feeding container) in order to make sure it sits right and the weight is dispersed correctly. What Nanci uses looks much more user friendly, even with the batter low display problem. I'm used to mine though, so don't bother spending more money on changing it.
I do know that there are many different kinds that you can find for reasonable prices on e-bay. Good luck.

I have a postal scale I bought at the Staples.
For larger snakes I use the ice bucket I stole from a hotel room. :dgrin:

You will want a scale that has a "tare" function if you don't want to have to do math every time. This means you can set a bowl or something on the scale, press a button, and it will reset to zero so that when you drop the snake in, the results are the actual weight of the snake rather than the weight of the snake plus the bowl.

We use a kitchen scale that we got at Walmart through the site-to-store thing. I had bought a different one first, but its tare function didn't work very well. When the weights for my animals made no sense, I tried it with food packages that are of course labeled with their weights. It was correct. I tried it with the same food packages using the tare function & the container I was using for the animals, and it was WAY off, so of course it went back to the store. So watch out for that.

Our corn will not sit still to be weighed, so we have to put her in a container with a lid.

I use a digital kitchen scale from walmart. Usually, my amel is less than cooperative so I just put her whole hide in with her inside. Then I subtract the 31 grams for the hide and voila!

Excuse me for a minute, but I must say that I just LOVE that picture. I'm not entire sure what's funny about the frog just sitting there like that, but something about it tickles me.

That's my Mr. Toad! I captured him to use him for scenting mice to try to get my eastern hoggy to switch. No way... But I liked him so much I just kept him. He is a reformed cohabitator; in the past he has lived with my desert tortoises (for quite a long time) and with Isabel the bearded dragon for a short time. Now he has his own viv.

I use a typical digital scale as well. Some times my snakes don't fit easily in their containers.

My scale unfortunately is only accurate to +/- 5 grams.
So it's useless with neonates, I don't like to use it until they are about 50g.

Before next season though, I will buy one accurate to +/- .1 gram for the small guys.

I use a Salter brand digital scale with a rectangular rubbermaid to hold the snakes. Works for even my largest ones.
