Weird bruise thingies! Help!

Sisuitl

I dig'em!
I checked on my snow girl today and she has big huge purple blotches on her sides. They look like bruises, but I have no idea what could have caused them as she's in a rubbermaid with paper towels, and paper hide, and a deli cup water dish. She ate 5 days prior to this and pooped normally already. I tried holding her up to the light, the darkest purple area seems to be concentrated along where her lungs and heart are, and continues along the rest of her. The purpleness is mainly visible in the saddle/side blotch type areas, and not so much on the scales with opaque white/pink (background color)

She shed 2 days ago, but this is the first time I have really looked at her since her shed. She doen't seem to be in any pain, and she's behaving normally. The area doesn't seem tender either. I'm am afraid to feed her in case something might be wrong though. Has anybody ever seen this before or know what could be causing it? She's a 2004 with no previous health problems. I don't have a camera at home right now, but I will try to find one.

could it be at all possible that the snake was burnt by the UTH? check the temps.. if thats not the case.. the only way to tell would be pics.. keep us posted!

hope this helps!

My herps are kept in a herp room with controlled ambient temps. I don't like using uth's with rubbermaid bins because of burns/fire concerns. Thanks for the suggestion though, we are totally stumped and worried here.

Does anyone else have access to the reptiles? Could a youngster have accidentally dropped the snake (or handled it roughly) & put it back in it's tub? Young kids don't realize how delicate small creatures can be.

No, the only people here are my husband and I, and I use plain white paper towels because of ink poisoning paranoia. She's still acting fine though. The folks at Reptile Specialists here in town suggested maybe she had a color change related to her shed, I've never heard of a snow getting purple though....   She always has had light lavender borders around her saddles, but this new side color is a shade darker than that. Rich Z was saying at one point he didn't know if she was het lav or fully snopal (if I remember rightly). I hope it's something harmless like that. I just have never even heard of a snopal turning purple.

Most pale snakes have internal organs that are quite visible thru the skin. If she just shed, she might be more transluscent than normal and you're just seeing the internals thru the skin.

I agree with MegF. I have a snow corn and after he sheds his organs are quite visible through his scales. I think it comes with the territory of being albino. But I don't know exactly what yours looks like without a pic. If I did I could compare.
