Actually I live in a smallish town, and the majority of farmland and woods I played in as a child have now been built over. Luckily there are small pockets of nature reserves within (a determined) walking distance still, and more just a short drive away. Nothing spectacular around here, but the estuary is a good place to go bird watching for migrants. I've got a few days off now, so if it doesn't rain in the morning I'll go back and see if there's more wildlife around this time. I've been lucky enough to see marsh and hen harriers before, as well as greylag and barnacle geese, shelduck, cormorants, terns, gulls, and lots of waders. Too far away for a good shot, but I was watching this black-backed gull harrassing smaller laughing gulls and their young.
