What did I see at the pet store?

I went into the local pet store tonight and was pruising through the snakes when what do my wandering eyes spy, but a.....?

I found a what looked to me like a snow, but instead of being the normal pink and white it was definitely white, there was pink, but also faint peachy tones on the first half to third of its body, the rest was white of course but it looked to me like a purple tinting trying to come through. There was no yellow on the neck. I'm assuming he is an 07. He didn't look like a coral, but more or a mix between a snow and a lavender. Any one have any ideas?

I'll do that! I'm actually going to have to bring him home! I was looking through photos of color morphs and I'm thinking he could possibly be a hypo lavender, at least that is what he resembles the most.

What about an opal?

Red eyes or black-pupilled, that's the question.

If it had red red eyes it's more likely to be an opal than a hypo lavender.

Is it in your possession yet???? Even if you don't want it, you could probably re-sell it to a great home on here. There are a bunch of suckers for the light stuff here :D :D :D

The price would be a good indicator of whether it's an Opal or a Snow or a Coral Snow. There's a LOT of variation just within your average everyday boring Snow . . . ;)

Not necessarily... depends on if the shop was smart enough to realize what they have... I picked up my first Sunglow Motley for $30 at a local shop. The shop owner had no idea what it was... alas when I went to get Gunn, he'd learned quite a bit from me and his own research. Gunn costed me $70 and that was at a discount because he wasn't feeding well yet, but the guy had faith that I could get him going. Plus, he was trying to work with the other two from the clutch who weren't eating at all yet.

BUT, regardless of his ignorance, I'm willing to bet he purchased that snake for less than $15, so whoever he got it from didn't know what it was worth either . . . that's not necessarily the shop owners fault for not knowing. Many of their prices are based off what they purchased it at. Let's be honest, they can't know all the morphs and all the values of all the animals they sell. ;) If he'd have purchased it wholesale for what it was worth, then you can guarantee he would have sold it at the appropriate markup. Look at it this way, he's obviously an honest person as he didn't price gouge you!!

Per the discussion, what's more likely . . . Mismarked/Cheap Opal or Not Uncommon "lots of color" run-of-the-mill Snow corn?!

LOL Well, since you are giving me the choice... I'd much prefer the former to the latter :D But then I'm not much into the lighter coloured morphs.... unless I can find me a gorgeous Blizzard with no yellow whatsoever :D

I couldn't say this last night since my husband was reading my posts, but I put a deposit on him so they would hold him for me. Now that I told my husband and he is in a much better mood..LOL...I am picking him up either tonight or tomorrow. I paid $49.99 for this one and I am going to have it sexed by one of my friends before I bring it home so I can be sure of the sex. The place that I am buying him? from is a small mom and pop shop that don't know hardly anything at all about corn snakes, let alone color morphs and their pricing. They just buy babies from some local breeder that also doesn't know anything about anything, IMO, but to put a male and female together and then incubate the eggs, or at least he/she could care less about the babies. He/She sends them in by the handfuls and I would say that 95% of them die before they can even be sold, they look as if they haven't even had their first meal, it is real sad. But anyway, this particular snake was brought in by an individual whom probably traded it for credit at the store or something to that effect. I couldn't leave the store last night without buying it, knowing that it was definately worth more than $49.99 and the colors I saw on him were different than I had ever seen.
When I bring him home I will definately take pictures and post them to see what you all think. Thanks for all your suggestions, I really appreciate them!!

Glad you got the snake, can't wait to see pics!

LOL well first you gotta find one that you want to put a deposit on... another area that I'm really picky :D

Looking forward to seeing pictures of that new one... glad he found a home with you... when do you get to bring him home??? Sounds like the sooner the better for his health... the snake, not the husband :D

Now days if you find one as good as I got, you have to put a deposit down because you can't afford a husband like him all at once!!

I'm bringing him home tommorow morning, my husband is finishing my multi-unit enclosures right now!! I'm so ready. He looks to be is very good health, that is one thing. The pet store may not know what they have in there, as in the value of their animals, but they do know how to take care of ones that don't need specialized care, such as those poor little babies.

You all are so funny, love it!!
