What is musking?

Gralena

Corn Snake Diva
Hi! I know I am a dorky little newbie...but what is musking? I have seen several people mention it...do corn snakes do it? Or just other types of snakes? I assume it is when they feel threatened or scared? Thanks

It's a nice way of saying the snake poops or pees on you as a self defense mechanism, and yes corns will do it, especially the babies. Especially when they are being 'popped' lol

Oh, okay. Monty has not done it yet to me...but I'm sure my time will come. I won't be popping him anytime soon...thank goodness I got him from Kathy, and don't need to worry with that! Thanks!

I saw this post and decided to bring my camera upstairs to snap a pic of Sable.

She without fail, always musks me when I take her out of her viv. Her gland is easy to see due to the fact she's a MBK.

I hope she grow out of this!

And here's what happens when I don't make it to the kitchen sink in time! (That's from her one-year birthday party...)

(My Florida King, Jake, musks but you can't see or feel it- there's nothing there, and it smells like green apples!)

LOL Nanci!

You know your addicted when they poo' on your floor and your first thought is "Wheres the camera!" instead of "Wheres the mop?"

:D

My ratsnake has mostly given up musking now,but it was a distinct 'burnt rubber/strong cheese' odour different to when he would poo-fling and tail-whip. Now he emits faint whiffs of it during handling, so I think he just opens his musk glands a little to remind me what he's capable of:rofl:

And that was before I had the robot floor scrubber! I had the camera out a lot that day- I was just carrying Inez in from taking her out for her birthday photoshoot. http://tinyurl.com/2thfjb

The worst musker i have ever seen so far has got to be my new coastal carpet python.

I will constantly poop on me till i put him back .. ohh and he will also bite me till i put him back.
