My corn lou always comes out to see whats for dinner when we start cooking, he is right by the kitchen and it never takes too long :p anyone else notice this?

I didnt want to make my own thread but couldn't find a general one for pictures like these. so while I have your attention anyone care to guess the morph? I know you cant really see him all but his belly is white with a some very small orange speckles towards the vent.

Yep....Still think your viv is the very best! Your snake really stands out in there too!
You recommended a book for me to create a viv like this, I totally forgot to look for it online! But I appreciate all your help, I'm still planning on a live viv like yours :)

thanks for all the pleasant replies :) Ill try and get a top down view soon. My camera has been useless since the summer cause I lost the charger, but finally got a new one this week. I had thought amel motley from my research as well, thanks for the confirmations!

As far as the substrate goes I started off with a regular potting soil mix and added some sand, vermiculite, lava rock and perlite. I would have preferred to use more lava rock as opposed to perlite, just for a more natural look. I didnt have enough lava rock on hand though and my budget is tight lately. The substrate stuck to my snake a little when it was first put it in but doesn't anymore, which is what that book(the art of keeping snakes) redneck mentioned had said would happen. To be honest though I had my roommate help me with substrate he knows ALOT more about soil and plants in general than I do.

I have only had this set up about two months so I havent changed out any substrate yet. I added some actually cause it got packed down a little. The author of the book mentioned recommends a partial replacement or addition of substrate every 6 months. although I think itll be hard to remove much substrate once the plants are more grown in. I suspect after a couple years everything will be too grown in and what not that everything will have to be taken out and start fresh.

Those are real plants? Holy cow, I would end up killing them in no time, I do not have a green thumb. I can actually kill plants that supposedly are difficult to kill!

VERY impressive setup! I love the bioactive substrate system. I haven't changed mine out yet, but I do "till" it once every couple of weeks when it gets too packed down. What type of plants are you using in there?

Yeah I try to stir mine up where I can as well. I have a couple spider plants, an unknown little vine cutting from a friend, a dracaena and a snake plant which are all visible in the pictures I posted. besides that I have a little pothos, and a big pothos going across the back, a ficus cutting and another unkown plant I got that looked kinda cool.

Gorgeous snake and setup!
On the topic of cooking, Stig seems to perk up whenever I cook with garlic. He gets out of his cave and looks around to see what's going on. :3
